📈 The number of egg freezers in America has skyrocketed 250% over the past 5 years.
Women might be increasingly taking advantage of egg freezing, but it’s no secret that the process can be shrouded in obscurity.
I wanted to chat with Lauren Steingold Makler, the Co-Founder & CEO of Cofertility, to dig into the business of egg freezing, what women are looking for when it comes to their experience, and how we can collectively do better to make doing something so potentially valuable for your future more accessible and more human.
Outside of the recent explosive growth of the egg freezing market, here are 2 more takeaways from my conversation with Lauren:
💸 When Cofertility launched in October of 2022, over 66% of women said they’d be interested in the company’s split program. Cofertility’s split program means, if you want to freeze your eggs, and you agree to donate half the eggs retrieved to a family in need, you can freeze your eggs for free. It seems that women *want* to take advantage of egg freezing, but clocking in at upwards of $15K, it’s hard for them to afford.
🙌 A recent Harvard study uncovered that 60% of donor-conceived people find it troubling that there was cash exchanged with the donor. Doing better for donor-conceived people might be *somehow* taking cash out of the equation. Cofertility definitely has a great idea here.

Thanks to my friend Lauren for educating us on all things egg freezing (and how egg freezing can be linked to egg donation in a way that works for everyone) 💫
