Until my late 30s, I was someone who seemingly had it all on the outside, but on the inside 'that' sinking feeling kept showing up. My career was on paper amazing, and don't get me wrong I was grateful and thrilled at the incredible experiences and roles, however I constantly found myself thinking ‘Is this as joyful as it gets? Why can’t I be happy? What is wrong with me?’ It wasn’t until I started my business (24 years after my career started) that I realised just how many women were out there feeling exactly the same. After starting my career with IAG as a 17 year old I had the opportunity to work in operations, as a training and development manager and a facilitator for strategy. I then expanded my depth of the industry and the powerful place technology has for financial services with NTI through a business transformation program. In 2008 following a year long backpacking holiday I landed a dream role with Suncorp Group and spent the next decade working with incredible people, inspiring leaders and contributed to delivering fantastic technology and business projects including a Canstar winning innovation product to market. So when Stella Insurance who are on a mission to champion equality and design products for a fairer world recently invited me to feature in their Women Led series and immediately (after the omg moment) I said YES! Stella Insurance, Sam White, Renee Cosgrave and the team are playing a role in disruption for good and I couldn't be more thrilled to share my passion to support leaders wanting to completely redefine what their future of work can look like. Over the past few months, Aya Consulting Firm had the privilege of leading and completing a major research project, working alongside a leading national organization that has been committed and at the forefront of actualizing equity and justice for close to a century. What a privilege and honor it was to lead this work as our world and nation works to evolve our understanding and commitments to equity in the broader international and national landscape which is shifting, evolving and growing. In the midst of a moment that so deeply requires humanity, duality, multipartiality and aligned strategic action, the insights and headlines from our research and case studies leave us optimistic. In this moment, the collective is thriving, evolving, sustaining and deepening their commitments to change and progress. My intention in the language of “moment” is to narrate explicitly, this time and season, in an extended timeline and continuous journey towards equity both historically and now. This is a moment, not a conclusion of pursuit. To fellow practitioners: Rest and restoration are a key foundational aspect of the cyclical and continuous nature of achieving a more equitable future and reality for the world; that world includes and requires you. “Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.” To fellow organizations & institutions: This is the moment.

I’m humbled and honored to be a EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 Award Winner. There were so many inspiring entrepreneurs that were finalists and winners - we have great people giving it their all to build impact. I’ve loved the journey of building Brandless - it’s hard, complex, inspiring and because of people who believe in me. And you can only build with people who believe. I am so proud of our team building a company from $1.5M to $100M in 24 months is no small feat. I was 100% confident I wasn’t winning. So some tears might have been shed when it was announced. Because it is a big deal and sometimes, even today, I’m not sure my leadership is good enough. I know I’m damn good at what I do, but sometimes doubt and comparison creeps in. Why? Because as a women funding is harder, a career path that works for me, a mom with a family, is harder and because my peers see me in community but not the kick-ass business side. So I’m very very grateful. And on top of it I had my family there, they are forever supportive, and it was presented by my friends Carine Strom Clark and Derrick Porter And it might have said, it’s about time. Yes it is. To all my fellow women CEOs. Remember you are crushing it, you are amazing and you can do it. Building profitable companies is hard, running a company is isolating and lonely, and decisions weigh heavily because they impact customers, investors and employees. I attended an insightful lunch with CFOs and women in finance yesterday. Had the honor of speaking at the recent USPAACC WISE event on a topic close to my heart: mentorship, risk-taking, and the profound journey of women's empowerment. As a panelist and a founding member of the Women Initiative of Strategic Empowerment, I shared my story—from a small village in China to founding Lush Décor Home and navigating the world of private equity. Mentorship to me is more than guidance; it's a heart-to-heart connection. It's about sharing life lessons, instilling confidence, and letting others know they're not alone. In our AAPI community and beyond, mentorship is a tool to break barriers and shatter stereotypes. It's deeply personal—my way of giving back and spreading the message that your beginnings don't define your destiny. Taking risks has shaped my journey. From leaving for Beijing with nothing but a dream, to starting a business during a financial crisis, each leap was a step into the unknown. Yet, it's these risks that redefine our destinies. What is the greatest risk? Not taking one at all. As we evolve as leaders, mentors, and pathfinders, the focus shifts from our success to empowering those around us. Launching the Jenny Jing Zhu Collective and dedicating proceeds from my book to support women entrepreneurs reflects this shift—a commitment to lifting others as we climb. As the month comes to an end, we’re excited to feature our final #WomensHistoryMonth Q&A with Kerri Maloney, PMP, who shares her experiences and advice for navigating a successful career. Meet Kerri Maloney, PMP, a Deloitte Consulting principal who leads our GPS team at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫?   Deloitte has been instrumental in shaping my career, offering a unique blend of opportunities and support that have allowed me to continually reinvent myself. One of the most impactful aspects has been the firm’s promotion of entrepreneurship, encouraging me to take initiative, think creatively, and drive change within the organization and for our clients. Working across multiple clients and sectors has been incredibly enriching, as it has not only expanded my knowledge, but also honed my ability to adapt and innovate. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬?  My advice to young women is to advocate for yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want, whether it’s work schedule flexibility or other accommodations. I’ve found that my leadership and peers have always been open to considering my needs when I’ve asked. It’s also important to come prepared with solutions to the questions you’re asking. Provide options during discussions, showing that you’ve thought things through and are ready to take on the responsibility.
