I went to the People Matters TechHR event Singapore '23 at Marina Bay Sands convention center on August 24, 2023. The event had a good mix of topics covering current and future HR and organizational challenges and opportunities. It was really nice to reconnect with some of my “Young Senior” HR colleagues whom I hadn't seen in years! In the main hall, where more than 900 participants gathered, we used a Mentimeter survey. It was fascinating to see the responses to the question, "What's the one thing you would like to change about your organizational culture today?" The common themes that emerged were mindset, innovation, diversity, hierarchy, agility, leadership, flexibility, and change. It's intriguing to note that even after attending various HR conferences over the past 30 years, these challenges remain as the focal points that organizations are still dealing with today.

In corporate landscapes, an inherent conflict often brews beneath the surface — the clash between the company's collective goals and the personal or group interests wielded by those in power. While stakeholders may envision a seamless alignment of individual motives with the organization's overarching objectives, reality often tells a more intricate tale. Those in influential positions, guided by personal customs and aspirations, can subtly mold the company culture to serve their interests, potentially hindering organizational well-being. This incongruity, often shielded from stakeholders' view, stands as a critical blind spot impacting efficiency, innovation, and the company's long-term viability. Navigating the corridors of influence, individuals in power face the challenge of fostering a corporate culture that transcends personal ambitions, prioritizing transparency, accountability, and commitment to the collective good. Stakeholders, internal and external, serve as crucial catalysts for change, urging a discerning examination of organizational dynamics. Addressing this inherent conflict of interests is pivotal, steering companies toward a balanced alignment where individual and organizational success become mutually reinforcing paths rather than divergent trajectories.

🌟 Recapping Our HR Team's Inspiring Conference Experience! 🌟 Our dynamic HR team recently had the privilege of attending the two-day “TechHR Conference” at the prestigious Marina Bay Sands. The event was a whirlwind of thought-provoking sessions, expert masterclasses, and vibrant discussions that left us brimming with new ideas and insights. 🚀 Hear our team members share their 3 Key Takeaways: 👉 Sophia Ho . 何慧慧 A) 80% of our brain's connection lies in our hands! Starting an activity may give you more ideas than having a verbal discussion in a brainstorming session. B) Under stress, our brain simplifies solutions; let's be mindful of this in decision-making. C) A balance of vulnerability and leadership is vital for leadership success. 👉 Hui Min A) Cultural change is a movement, not a mandate. B) Prioritise employee experience; they'll surprise us when given freedom. C) Master technology, don't let it master us. 👉 Yoris Yunanda A) Small HR steps lead to big organisational changes. B) Cultivate empathy; design systems with the end user in mind. C) The real change catalyst is our mindset. Special thanks to the organisers for curating such an enriching event. The “TechHR Conference” has ignited a fire within us to be future-ready partners with the team! #TechHRConference #HRInnovation #LearningAndGrowth #VintedgeSG

🔍 The Role of Transparency in Building Trust 🔍 Trust is the cornerstone of any successful organization. Without it, collaboration, innovation, and growth can stagnate. One of the most effective ways to build and maintain trust within a company is through transparency. Why Transparency Matters: - Fosters Open Communication: When leaders are transparent, it encourages an open flow of information, making employees feel informed and valued. - Builds Credibility: Transparency in decision-making processes and company operations builds credibility and trust with employees and stakeholders alike. - Enhances Employee Engagement: When employees understand the ‘why’ behind decisions, they are more likely to be engaged and aligned with the company’s mission. - Promotes Accountability: Transparency holds everyone accountable, from leadership to front-line employees, ensuring that everyone is aligned with the company’s values and goals. How to Foster Transparency: 1. Regular Updates: Keep employees informed about company performance, challenges, and strategic plans through regular updates and meetings. 2. Open Dialogue: Create channels for open and honest communication where employees can voice their opinions, ask questions, and provide feedback. 3. Share Decision-Making Processes: Explain the rationale behind major decisions to help employees understand and buy into the company’s direction. 4. Lead by Example: Leaders should model transparent behavior, demonstrating integrity and openness in their actions and communications. At Workzinga, we believe that understanding your own culture and the cultural preferences of your team members is key to achieving true culture alignment. By gaining these insights, organizations can foster an environment where transparency and trust naturally flourish. Do you think that HR departments are comfortable places? In all the projects I participate in and lead, we encounter many traits that require communication and positioning. Indeed, the transformation occurring in companies over recent years has been fascinating, but only for individuals and organizations that adapt, take a stand, and assume specific leadership roles to create a different environment for their team, fostering a unique career perspective. Attract the right talents! 🤓 When we fail to support everything established in the management model, we tend to experience ups and downs, and the pulse and atmosphere of the company change. It is essential to always align with who we are and what we do; therefore, we need to clearly define and communicate the company’s vision, mission, and values to the team. Implement a virtuous cycle of talent attraction and retention by cultivating a positive work environment and valuing your employees. Prioritize internal organization to create a setting conducive to employee well-being. Talent retention depends on a welcoming and inclusive environment. Make constant communication a priority; it will bring closeness and make all the difference in maintaining the “pulse” of your team. Valuing your team will make all the difference.
