I went to the People Matters TechHR event Singapore '23 at Marina Bay Sands convention center on August 24, 2023. The event had a good mix of topics covering current and future HR and organizational challenges and opportunities. It was really nice to reconnect with some of my “Young Senior” HR colleagues whom I hadn't seen in years! In the main hall, where more than 900 participants gathered, we used a Mentimeter survey. It was fascinating to see the responses to the question, "What's the one thing you would like to change about your organizational culture today?" The common themes that emerged were mindset, innovation, diversity, hierarchy, agility, leadership, flexibility, and change. It's intriguing to note that even after attending various HR conferences over the past 30 years, these challenges remain as the focal points that organizations are still dealing with today.

In corporate landscapes, an inherent conflict often brews beneath the surface — the clash between the company's collective goals and the personal or group interests wielded by those in power. While stakeholders may envision a seamless alignment of individual motives with the organization's overarching objectives, reality often tells a more intricate tale. Those in influential positions, guided by personal customs and aspirations, can subtly mold the company culture to serve their interests, potentially hindering organizational well-being. This incongruity, often shielded from stakeholders' view, stands as a critical blind spot impacting efficiency, innovation, and the company's long-term viability. Navigating the corridors of influence, individuals in power face the challenge of fostering a corporate culture that transcends personal ambitions, prioritizing transparency, accountability, and commitment to the collective good. Stakeholders, internal and external, serve as crucial catalysts for change, urging a discerning examination of organizational dynamics. Addressing this inherent conflict of interests is pivotal, steering companies toward a balanced alignment where individual and organizational success become mutually reinforcing paths rather than divergent trajectories.
