We applaud Gov. Shapiro and all who made possible the new law that bans the use of hand-held devices while driving. Safety is critical to what we do at the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and today’s bill will make a big difference in improving safety for our workers and customers. It’s even more fitting that today’s signing occurred during our Go Orange campaign, reminding motorists to remove distractions and focus on the road.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) needs your help! Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced a proposal that would reverse a 2021 law to eliminate impaired driving. The proposal is scheduled for a House Rules Committee vote on November 1 at 4pm ET. Please email your Representative to urge opposition to this proposal. Taking action takes less than a couple minutes and is quick and easy. Congressman Massie’s amendment will cancel the hard work by impaired driving victims and survivors for a federal law requiring impaired driving prevention technology in all new cars. Congressman Massie’s amendment 20 to the FY2024 House Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations bill would prohibit the implementation of this lifesaving law that will save more than 10,000 lives annually. The bipartisan Honoring Abbas Family Legacy to Terminate (HALT) Drunk Driving Act was signed into law in November 2021 as part of the bipartisan infrastructure law. The provision requires the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to issue a rulemaking by 2024 to make passive drunk driving prevention technology standard in new cars as soon as 2027. For more information, please visit madd.org/haltact. Please email your Representative today! Tell Congress NOT to cancel impaired driving prevention technology mandate (madd.org)

DRIVING FORCE ACTION EXPANDS CAMPAIGN WITH GOVERNOR YOUNGKIN “COMMON SENSE” AD Driving Force Action (DFA), a grassroots organization advocating for common sense consumer and business-friendly policies, has expanded its political ad campaign with a new ad titled “Common Sense.” The campaign urges support for four candidates running for the Virginia Senate who support sensible regulations and empowering Virginians to reclaim control over their own laws. The “Common Sense” campaign features excerpts from Governor Glenn Youngkin’s 2021 State of the Commonwealth speech, where he called for repealing Virginia’s ban on gas-powered cars and trucks. “It defies common sense that in 2021, lawmakers decided that instead of writing our own electric vehicle laws, Virginia would simply do whatever California decided to do,” Governor Youngkin told lawmakers during his speech. He emphasized the importance of elected leaders in Virginia making decisions that align with the state’s values and priorities, rather than outsourcing the state’s lawmaking function to radical California bureaucrats. “We believe in empowering Virginians to make decisions that align with our state’s values and priorities. Our ‘Common Sense’ ad campaign underscores the importance of sensible regulations and policies that benefit both consumers and businesses,” said DFA spokesperson Riley Ploch. “We are proud to support candidates who are dedicated to championing these principles and working towards a brighter future for Virginia.” Driving Force Action invites all Virginians to join them in their mission to promote common-sense policies by supporting candidates who prioritize the Commonwealth’s interests, rather than those of California bureaucrats. The ads will run in support of DFA’s endorsed candidates. #ICE #bantheban #automotive #technology #Virginia https://lnkd.in/eEDtnN68

We joined State Senator Andrew Gounardes this week to introduce new legislation to hold reckless drivers accountable. When people drive drunk, we put a device in cars to prevent it from happening again. When people speed, repeatedly, we should use similar technology to stop that. This bill does not deny anyone mobility. This simply ensures that people with extensive track records of driving dangerously change their behavior to be in line with the vast majority of other drivers. We can prevent speeding and protect New Yorkers. Only a fraction of people would be affected. Intelligent speed assistance would be installed in the cars of people who: ➡️ Receive 11 points on their license in an 18-month period ➡️ Receive six speed safety camera violations in a 12-month period This would apply for one year. Take action now! Sign our petition in support of the bill: https://lnkd.in/eaCWz3xH
