I often say, partly in jest and partly in truth, that I'm going to write a book titled, "Everything I Needed to Know About Nursing I Learned in Fundamentals." These are just a few of the significant lessons I learned/remember and that guide my practice today: The family is an extension of the patient and should be included in the care The self-introduction is a vital part of establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient/family The patient is a person first and a person with an illness or disability second I am, first and foremost, a patient advocate The patient's safety and well-being are in my hands The patient is always to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion regardless of their circumstances/lifestyle What were your key takeaways from Nursing 101?
