I just finished reviewing 16 abstracts for the EAGE convention. It is always interesting. What I find bothersome is that many abstracts followed this approach: I implemented this complicated method with a fancy name and I got these marginal results. But what I find lacking is not explaining the core problem that your method is addressing?? How is your method an improvement over similar, common methods?? Can you compare results with the similar, common method?? Just trying a complicated method is not enough!!

It is simple! If you publish in journals from the predatory journals list, then you are just degrading your own research! Only publish in journals where you are sure that the peer review is done fairly and professionally! If you have a review that comes back with less than 10 lines, you should be worried! There is always something to improve or something reviewers would not agree on. I personally never cite papers published in MDPI and would never encourage my colleagues or students to submit a paper there. They work too hard to be associated with poor quality reviews. Unfortunately, the longer they wait to clean up their database, the less likely they would be able to improve their quality as if you question the quality of one paper, it questions the quality of all the others.
Careful with MDPI/Frontiers/BMC journals. When possible, pick a society journal, the quality of peer-review is secured! Don’t compromise quality and rigour for quantity : https://lnkd.in/eTJzz3Px
