They excel in conflict reduction, serve as role models for women and girls, provide security, and deliver essential services to uplift communities. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Empowered women use diplomatic skills to foster dialogue and understanding among conflicting parties, contributing to sustainable peace processes. Their presence enhances credibility and promotes inclusivity. 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 Empowered women inspire others by breaking gender barriers and excelling in their fields. They empower women and girls to pursue education, leadership, and previously unattainable careers. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 Empowered women provide a sense of security to conflict-affected communities, addressing gender-based violence and ensuring women's voices are heard. They deliver critical services, such as healthcare and education, promoting development and resilience. Empowered women are instrumental in creating lasting peace and transforming societies. Within United Nations Peacekeeping missions, they demonstrate exceptional leadership and make invaluable contributions. Recognizing and supporting these women is crucial for fostering a more inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous world. Empowered women in peacekeeping missions serve as beacons of hope for communities ravaged by conflict. Their resilience, professionalism, and dedication to their roles inspire trust and confidence among local populations, facilitating cooperation and collaboration. By engaging with local communities and building meaningful relationships, these women gain invaluable insight into the unique challenges and aspirations of the people they serve. This deep understanding enables them to design and implement targeted interventions that address the root causes of conflict and promote long-term peace and stability.

The United Nations is committed to ensuring women's full, equal and meaningful participation in peace and political processes. Today, uniformed women represent less than 10% of UN Peacekeeping's deployed personnel. Women in peacekeeping currently face three main challenges: the exclusion of and discrimination against female peacekeepers; the relegation of female peacekeepers to safe spaces; and SEAHV [sexual exploitation, abuse, harassment and violence] of female peacekeepers. This, despite the fact that having having women in peacekeeping missions is associated with success. The UN Security Council has called for doubling the number of women in uniformed components of peace operations by 2028. Currently, only 6% of all uniformed military, police and justice and corrections personnel in field missions are women. Even though remarkable progress has been achieved since the adoption of the Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy, efforts are still needed to reach our targets for 2028 and beyond and sustain those that have been met.

Interpeace recently launched a handbook that focuses on the needs of national and international advisers from the #development, #humanitarian and #peacebuilding sectors. It offers "a concise and practice-oriented format, a carefully tailored selection of key concepts and tools that will help you shape your role as an effective adviser in complex settings." It is based on Interpeace's training course "Effective Advising in Complex Contexts". The content of the Effective Advising in Complex Contexts course is based on a systems thinking and complexity approach. The Handbook addresses the concerns of advisers who work in settings wrestling with #conflict and #violence, complex #socialchange and transformation, and #polarization.
