Rozeta and Itena, two of our Peace Corps counterparts working with Children are the Future in Albania, needed support to redesign their website. They saw how valuable a new website would be to apply for new grants for their projects. Their solution? Partnering with Peace Corps through our Virtual Service Pilot. A military force, often labeled as the most moral, has just bombed a United Nations school in the Nuseirat area of Gaza. This school served as a sanctuary for 7,000 displaced individuals and 1,200 families. Think about relocating your family to a school for safety, trusting in its status as a UN-protected space. It's a place you believe will shield you from harm. Now, picture the struggle to feed your children under siege, while assuring them that everything will be okay. This is your attempt to provide comfort in dire circumstances. Then imagine that this cruel army bombs the school, your last sanctuary, destroying the little hope you had left. What options remain? Where can you turn? This isn't a scenario you need to envision; it's a reality happening now. Witness the ongoing tragedy in Gaza. #GazaUnderAttack #HumanRights #UN

#peace #un The D Day memorials brings home the need for peace 80 years on as the last few D Day veterans came together. The end of WW2 led to the foundation of the UN which continues to work with national Governments to facilitate peace. The UN is a lasting testimony to all those who gave their lives in WW2 for peace in Europe and Globally. Currently there are around 110 armed conflicts globally. We are pleased to announce our CRS Book prize short list authors: Jason Stearns, Peer Schouten and Marika Sosnowski. A little about their books (in alphabetical order): 1️⃣ Jason Stearns: "The War That Doesn't Say Its Name: The Unending Conflict in the Congo." Arguing that the fighting in the Congo has become an end in itself, carried forward through the apathy and complicity of local and international actors. 2️⃣ Peer Schouten: "Roadblock Politics: The Origins of Violence in Central Africa." Mapping more than 1,000 roadblocks to show how communities, rebels & state security forces forge resistance & power out of control over these narrow points of passage. 3️⃣ Marika Sosnowski: "Redefining Ceasefires: Wartime Order and Statebuilding in Syria." This book explores ceasefires as not only military tactics but also as tools of wartime order and statebuilding. Congratulations to all for being shortlisted! 🎉

Fisayo Ajala introductory statement on “soldiers go to war, but don’t come back the same”, caught me and threw me into deep thought. Personally, the phrase resonates to be a poignant reminder of the profound impact of war on those who serve, of which their sacrifice and resilience deserve our utmost respect and support. However, beyond the respect and support that is deserving for their immense impact, I’m aware that a number of programs have been put in place by most governments, to support this special group to reintegrate successfully back into the society after service, medical discharge and/or voluntary retirement. Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that in order for these initiatives to be sustainable and impactful #nations #governments #policymakers #policyanalysts need to have a deep reflection on some 9 questions like: 1. How can strong policies better support the mental health service and well-being of returning soldiers? 2. Are there sustainable programs aimed at helping veterans transition smoothly into civilian life, including employment opportunities and educational support? 3. How can policies address the unique challenges faced by veterans, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), homelessness, and substance abuse? 4. What measures are being taken to prevent military personnel from being deployed excessively, reducing the risk of mental and physical strain? 5. Are there adequate resources allocated for research into innovative treatments and therapies for veterans experiencing trauma and other war-related issues? 6. How can policies promote a culture of understanding and support for veterans within communities? 7. What steps are being taken to address systemic issues within the military that may contribute to the difficulties faced by returning soldiers? 8. How can policies ensure that families of military personnel are adequately supported during and after deployments? 9. Are there efforts to increase awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues within the military and veteran communities? Addressing these questions certainly will provide valuable insights for policy makers, analysts, and governments to respond to various aspects such as healthcare access, transition support, addressing challenges like PTSD and homelessness, prevention measures, research funding, community support, systemic issues within the military, family support, and mental health awareness. Also, they can inform the development of more effective policies and initiatives to better support soldiers/veterans and their families, as well as prevent the ripple effects these can have on the safety and security of all people. #security #safety #policydevelopment #development #sustainablepeace #sustainablesecurity

"Soldiers go to war, but they don't come back the same". This short quote, attributed to one of the participants I spoke to during my recently concluded field research on combat experiences and posttraumatic stress disorder on Nigerian soldiers of the Boko Haram conflict explains how war changes and impact soldiers in many ways than one. The statement summarises the lived realities of Nigerian soldiers who have experienced the tragedies of war. The discussions extended to the provisions of post combat support and care by Nigerian military authorities to soldiers who have returned from the Northeast operations. To this, there is growing awareness of the numerous impact of war on soldiers, and first aid level support provided to personnel upon exit from the combat theatre, but much more needs to be done in the aspect of post combat care and support. My unreserved gratitude to my esteemed participants, both officers and men, of the Nigerian Army and Airforce, who volunteered to share their combat experiences and enriched my research with their different perspectives. I'm also grateful to the European Research Council (ERC) Madness in West Africa (MADAF) team for providing the intellectual, material and logistical support for this research project, from its initial conception in Cologne, Germany to the recently concluded fieldwork in Nigeria. Plans are underway to publish findings in both open access outlets and peer reviewed journal platforms. Let us continue to support our soldiers and ensure that they receive the care and support they need to cope with the aftermath of war. #NigerianSoldiers #PTSD #CombatExperiences #WarImpact #PostCombatCare #MilitarySupport

A propaganda campaign’s ultimate purpose is to persuade a populace to act in accordance with a given message through delivering influential facts. Military operations are categorized as peacetime, conflict, and war. Peacetime: During the first environment, peacetime, the Army serves as a deterrent to war and helps keep tensions between nations below the threshold of conflict. Examples of peacetime operations are disaster relief and nation assistance. Military operations other than war (MOOTW) are military operations that do not involve warfare, combat, or the threat or use of violence. They generally include peacekeeping, peacebuilding, disaster response, humanitarian aid, military engineering, law enforcement, arms control, deterrence, and multilateralism.

Dear Friends of Peace & Resolution: We have an amazing proposal in place that calls for the return of the hostages, the opportunity for families of love ones on both sides to seek and obtain justice for the horrors that have been committed, an immediate cease-fire with funds that have already been approved for military purposes to simply be redirected to outstanding causes that can Aid, assist, and heal all of the communities of the Middle East. And the most extraordinary thing about it is that it has already been voted on with 96% from the Israeli people and an even higher percentage from Palestinians and the rest of the world as detailed at https://lnkd.in/e3Nh_25j So WHY hasn't it been IMPLEMENTED and why isn't the entire world standing up as one to demand its implementation?
