I’ve missed working near the water. It’s nice to walk and take in the relative peace (whilst posting on LinkedIn and almost tripping!! 😂). So many memories here at Docklands - particularly my time working in a team called Property, Procurement & Environmental Operations (those who were there know this was indeed our BUs name - and my title was Manager of Environmental Communications and Engagement… try saying all that super fast!). Lots of friends, many life long ones. Lots of important mentors for me, Amy Conrad , Sudhir Rao , Nicola Schroder , Alison Read (who encouraged me to become a mentor for the first time!), Belynda Oliver ,Chris De La Rue , Cameron Myrtle , Simon Franklin , Marcus Carli , Katie M. , Brendan Keenan, Gillian Westwood - gosh… I could go on for days! I remember setting 3yr delivery strategies, iterating within that and often delivering something better than what we predicted - the strategy was simply a guide rail that we reported against and updated. We did that twice! 🤩 I’ve gone on to have so many amazing roles, in many different places - and like a Pokémon master, I have collected all the kind, courageous, compassionate and individually skilled humans I’ve had the honour to work with. But that time in PP&EO was like a summer’s afternoon with a cold drink in hand - hot (challenging, sometimes so much ya broke a sweat!) and refreshing (supported, connected, together, safe). Onsite Managers can sometimes forget just how important they are to their community, so I am here to remind them. I was lucky enough to sit in a meeting some time ago where we found ourselves explaining the importance of Management Rights and the role an Onsite Manager plays. One comment that I will never forget "We are everyone's Person". This one statement has stuck with me since, as an onsite manager you are the community's person. 😔 I used to think back-to-back meetings meant I was being super productive. 😔 ⛔ I WAS WRONG! ⛔ Since starting Stanley Cowton International, I've been working on quality rather than quantity. 💡 Now I leave a 15 minute buffer between every call. This means I can complete any tasks from the call, or at least schedule time to compete them. I can't express strongly enough how important Jesse Cole's mantra of Fans First should be incorporated in how we interact with donors and how admissions should interact with prospective students and families in the private educational sector. You may have the best glossy brochures or produced videos, but they all fall short on the personal interactions you have with your donors and families. These interactions are game changers. They are the difference between getting a gift or having a student enroll in your school. The student ambassador who connects with a child during a visit to campus or taking the time to have coffee with a new parent and sharing personally the incredible impact giving has on your school - moves mountains. Incredible video from Jesse Cole from the Savannah Bananas at Fenway Park talking about seizing the opportunity, slowing things down and giving the fans their moment! Although this is about baseball and showmanship, I cannot help but relate to how this simple theory of slowing down, being in the moment and personalizing the moment matters in healthcare. And as we embark on the new Medicare GUIDE model for Alzheimer's and dementia care, the aspect of personalizing care and slowing down will become even more important. At PocketRN, we believe that nurse lead care is the key to driving ongoing, sustainable outcomes because nurses are the changemaker's, the empathetic people who relate, listen and care. Nurses personalize care delivery by focusing on things that matter to the patient. The things that a patient can relate to, and the needed motivation patients and their caregivers need to be involved!
