Global VP of Talent, at PHMG

🔹Diversity and Inclusion: a short story. 🔹 We hear a lot about D&I these days. It’s become very popular for companies to talk about it but you don’t always get to see what difference it really makes to people or what the two words even mean. For clarity: 🔴 Diversity🔴 is when you hire the big gay fella and promote him to be VP of Talent for your company. 🔴 Inclusion🔴 is when you create policies at your company that allow the big gay fella, or anyone, to adopt a baby and take paid adoption leave, not once, but twice in my case. (My husband Mike and I are all done now before anyone panics! :-)) It’s given our family stability and the luxury to give our babies the time and attention they need to fully bond with us and feel safe and loved. To me, this isn’t just a lesson in D&I, it’s a masterclass. PHMG have gone above and beyond, surpassing the adoption policies of most companies. We’ve done so many things to attract and retain talent here and this is one of the things that makes me feel the most proud. We don’t claim to be a ‘family’ at PHMG but we do act like a team. We are striving to make sure that team includes everyone. My gratitude and respect to our CEO and Founder Grant Reed Gareth Watt and the Board for being the leaders in cultural change that others will follow. When did you last take a look at our open roles? You’d be joining one of the best. Come and talk to me and the team anytime. phmg.com/careers #diversity #inclusion #team #gaydads #adoption

Thanks for the lovely responses. I wish more companies were being as inclusive. Very lucky to work at PHMG :-). Hope the story inspires some change somewhere else! X

There are many reasons to love this post. But there’s a miracle hiding in plain sight here. Two very young children who are: A) looking at the camera B) smiling C) hands posed in exactly the same way I literally don’t believe it. GenAI has to be involved surely?? Paul Campbell-Jennings you’re wasted in TA. Whatever the magic solution is you have to managing child behaviour, that’s a $trillion idea right there! 😂

I was exceptionally lucky that the company I was working at when we adopted were so supportive and open to feedback about the policies they had in place. Inclusive language around parental leave needed to be reconsidered to be more inclusive. It was refreshing to see that not only did they engage in discussion with myself about how they could better support prospective adoptive parents but made changes to their policy wording op others would not have the same experience. This made a huge impact on how valued Ifelt in my role. Sometimes its the smallest of interactions which have the biggest impact.

Beautiful photo; beautiful family. Not all employers understand or recognise the challenges of becoming a parent through adoption so it's great to see how supported you feel.
