The new ElevenLabs Reader app is simple and genius. The use cases are so practical and obvious that I can’t believe someone hadn’t already figured out a way to make this so accessible within an app. I just downloaded it yesterday and I’ve already used it a half dozen times to read articles and research reports to me. I could see the app quickly becoming a part of my daily AI tool set along with ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude. I think this could be an example of an innovative app that gets steamrolled by OpenAI adding the feature to ChatGPT, but for the time being it’s insanely practical and valuable. According to their blog, “The ElevenLabs Reader App lets you listen to any text content, with ElevenLabs voices, on the go. This expands your library of audio content to any article, PDF, ePub, newsletter, or any other text on your phone. And with our expansive, ever growing voice library, you can find a voice to suit any content, mood, or occasion.” About ElevenLabs ElevenLabs is a voice AI research & deployment company with a mission to make content universally accessible in any language & voice. The company was founded in 2022 by an ex-Google machine learning engineer, and an ex-Palantir deployment strategist, and has raised $101M through Series B. https://lnkd.in/gc6hQ2fK
Paul, so Thursday I see this post and literally less than an hour later someone in our company slacks, “Can anyone recommend a text-to-voice reader that can scan and articulate PDFs, Word docs, etc? I need to find one today.” I shared your recommendation, she loved it, and you helped an old geezer look good. Many thanks.
Thanks for the heads up! We are beginning to expand the different tools that we teach and guide people with. What makes this hard is your comment “this is something OpenAI can steamroll with just one update.” For us, Ai educators and integrators, is this a distraction for us to learn and try to teach just to have OAI release the same feature in a system we already know and have curriculum for?
Agree! It's something I hope smart devices' makers to implement at the OS level.
Excellent. Really need options that enable us to not just stare at screens. Opens up more access to visually impaired as well.
Paul Roetzer thanks for sharing. Seems like the perfect app while at the gym or driving. Actually listenable voices compared to default robotic ones built into MS office and other programs.
Being a slow reader and auditory learner, this is a huge help to me personally. This is also great for my son who likes to read along. Now there really isn't an excuse not to walk, hike, or hop on a treadmill while learning. We're all gonna be smart and fit, can't beat that! :)
Thanks for the share! Excited to try it but could not get it to work on this https://www.clay.com/blog/ai-lead-generation Any tips on how you feed it links to blog pages?
Finally!! Another win for those of us in the neurodivergent community whose jobs (and companies) depend on us reading a ton. When I see a new AI development that in one go breaks down a disadvantage like this, I wonder what I could have achieved with access to AI from an early age. Now how to get primary school educators to adopt quickly to eliminate this disadvantage from the beginning... There's the real challenge!
The app's simplicity and practicality are indeed genius. Its seamless integration with various text formats and voices makes it an invaluable tool for daily use.

2wVery interesting. Can it read epub files? Thinking instant audio book for books publishers never created audio book versions of. 🤔
