Today, I attended the second day of Nestlé's virtual event NEST GEN. Personal development, dealing with failure, and career options were all discussed. The program panelists came from some of the top global companies and they included Rofhiwa M. from Meta, Rachael Reid from Canva, Paul Keijzer from The Talent Games. In the first part of the event they came together in a zoom meeting where they introduced themselves, and then they held separate meetings to allow participants to ask questions about personal branding, skill enhancement, and career advice. It was a great day of learning, and I gained insights such as: Add visuals to your resume to make it stand out. Work on your negotiating skills. Use Coursera to improve both technical and soft skills. Expand your network. "Your network decides your net worth" was quoted. Grow you skillset by acquiring certifications.

2 Years on ADPList: 400+ Connections, 34K+ minutes, 1100+ sessions, Growth, and Giving Back! Finally getting around to sharing a quick wrap of my 2 years* adplist.org journey! A journey where I have been fortunate enough to be part of some amazing conversations that were fun, inspirational and had great learnings within them for me. Unbeknownst to me, I started some of those conversations with a stranger and ended the call with that stranger turned into a friend. But maybe this is not the time to celebrate but tighten up the boots to give it all. I know times are rough right now, with layoffs, scarcity of job opportunities and tough competition! But don't lose hope and the belief in your skills. You did that Masters degree, that bootcamp, that self driven course for a reason. Remember that reason. Remember why you fell in love with design. Remember why you felt the pull towards it as a career. Remember the joy you felt when you used design thinking to solve your first problem. And remember, you will surmount this obstacle as well and come out with more success! I did not want to rush into the process of sharing what I feel after going through our club's annual report and so this is a late post :) ~Reading it made me feel that it's a space expressing and sharing the experiences of the team's efforts, sweat, tears and smiles along with everything that goes into building a unique concept which is not just a business but a community offering more than just a service/product to its members.. It's a journey. It's an experience. It's about growing. And so post reading, wanted to share my thoughts with all the attention and love it deserves, along with expressing my heartfelt appreciation for everyone who has been contributing in their capacity :) As a part of any business or an individual looking to grow, it's important to understand and review your action steps and be ready to take the feedback. Analyze what is working and what is not working. While getting the insights, I felt as a member being involved in the process of building this community with the team acknowledging everything that it has to do in order to achieve its targets. I believe it takes more than just the 'growth in the numbers approach' to reach there. And the blog does it with such honesty that it touches your heart. One of the themes I've been noticing about Tech Week this year is how big of a role content is playing. It is not just about capturing content for events for publicity; founders, investors, and organizers are all focusing on creating content to build their brand. This might seem obvious, but the shift from creating content to sell something to creating content to build your brand and develop an authentic community and connection with your users and customers is here. Some examples of people building a brand online for their business: - Kira Mackenzie Jackson has been sharing her thoughts and expertise when it comes to partnerships, brand, and community building and just announced she is now Chief Brand Officer of SET ACTIVE - John Hu is creating his personal brand as a startup founder in the creator space by sharing his journey building Stan, a creator company doing $25M in ARR - Andrew Yeung quit his job at Google to host events for founders and investors in tech - and he's growing it by growing his brand on LinkedIn and X. Now he's even hosting founders and bringing them to tech week (and they're creating content). Shoutout to Andrew and Rho for bringing me to NYC and helping me create great content! Creating content is no longer a "nice to have." It's become essential to get ahead in your career and business. Her insights interested me, particularly: The lack of transparency in job requirements: Many industries, including gaming, struggle with clear communication around what skills and experience are truly needed for various roles.
