Normally I'm a huge, huge fan of John Cutler and his newsletter, which you *should* subscribe to if you want to learn how to be an effective dev or PM. However, his missive yesterday is off the mark. What he's observing is 100% a failure of leadership. People can blame the tools all they want, but if you're not creating a culture that supports these principles they go nowhere. https://lnkd.in/gdCg3-VR #PMI #softwaredevelopment #productmanagement #agile

Helping a team find it's best form is far more art than science. It's a journey that involves: Soul searching Discovering intrinsic motivators Uncovering emotional blockers Finding a true purpose ...and so much more! I've never seen this happen by a focus on process, tools, command and control, or other distractions that seem to fill up the time of so many "agilists" and leaders. Please learn to focus on the more powerful things and discard the distractions. #scrum #scrummasters #teamwork #team #leadership #agile #teamsdeliverthevalue

Everyone does it; almost no one does it right. OKRs or whatever form of agile process you believe in. There are few people like Jeff Gothelf who really get it. A man who shares my aversion for SAFe - he gets it. But not just the standard stuff on what OKRs are but the difficult questions: * Why does it all fail if you're not humble as a leader? * How do you account for exploration with OKRs? * How do you prevent them from going out of control? I'm somewhat of a fan of well-managed OKRs. I see the need to have some tools to give transparency to a business and avoid constantly being stuck. As a framework, they can work in the hands of an experienced leader. But then you're faced with this boss who just thinks it's all a question of the framework the company uses but not his mindset. If you can't stand in front of your people and admit that something you're not doing yourself (engineering, managing products, designing...) is actually hard, being a role model for humility... ... how do you expect them to do the same regarding customer problems and their values when it's time to check their progress? How to lead while structuring them and your goals so it's an actual team effort and not your teams playing theatre just to impress you with no real impact: https://lnkd.in/eKye2_6V #okrs

Value Delivery Executive | Driving SaaS/PaaS Innovation & Customer Success | Expert in Scaling Startups to Enterprise | Fostering Operational Excellence & Customer-Centric Cultures
Got sent this article on the challenges of scaling Agile and thought I'd share it. Many of the ideas are straight out of Team Topologies but are still good reminders. The TL;DR to me is it takes really strong executive leadership to pull off these types of transformations as well as a strong partnership between Product and Engineering. A strong change strategy is also essential.
