🍎 --- November #PICK OF THE MONTH by House of Ethics: Titan Thinking – Fighting Disinformation with Critical Thinking & AI --- 🍎 ------------- After our October #pickofthemonth, Delaware-based ALIAS TECHNOLOGY, LLC by forensic linguist Carole E Chaski, PhD, here is our November Pick 🍎 Rome-based Titan Thinking, a research and innovation project that informs and teaches how to counter #disinformation by using critical (Socratic) thinking. 🍎 “Disinformation, also known as fake news, is deliberately deceiving people and undermining European and National #democracy” -------- Why we ❤️ Titan Thinking -------- The House of Ethics supports this innovative European initiative which practically addresses the ubiquitous and dangerous phenomenon of increasing online disinformation by empowering people and guiding them to informed, ethical decision-making. --- 🍎 Titan Thinking's originality --- #TitanThinking provides an innovative and interactive online AI app, called Citizen Coaching, which stands out of the plethora of available tech tools. Citizen Coaching is based on one of the most ancient and finest philosophical “human investigative” methods: the #Socratic Method. The Socratic Method is a three-step #thinking and #questioning process named after the Titan of Western #philosophy, Socrates. #TitanThinking uses interactive and conversational modern technology to assist people to uncover online falsehoods, mis- and disinformation. Thus #empowering users to parse right from wrong in the evergrowing data deluge where raw and synthetic data are mixed and mashed into critically, and easily misleading information. --- 🍎 Citizen Coaching, an educational infotainment tool for people --- The Titan Thinking website features videos on the latest hot topics such as Hate Speech on X: “Deserting X Amidst Disinformation and Hate Speech Scandals.” ... thus enabling people to #conduct their own investigations individually or collectively, #interpret and critically assess the reasoning and arguments involved in a statement, #enhance and constantly evolve their critical thinking skills for better detection of disinformation. The Montreal AI Ethics Institute is a partner organization with Partnership on AI (PAI). Our Partnerships Manager, Connor, attended their UK AI Safety Summit fringe event in London on the 24th and 25th of October, 2023. Impressed by the variety in both speakers and thoughts, his main takeaway came from the importance of public engagement when deploying AI systems. That is in strong alignment with the mission of MAIEI in democratizing AI ethics literacy, which aims to build civic competence so that the public is better prepared and informed about the nuances of AI systems to properly engage in how AI systems are governed from a technical and policy perspective. #ethics #aiethics #responsibleai #ai #ethicalai https://lnkd.in/gnRfcuNp

🔐 What was the hullabaloo on Ethics? Read on. In the exciting world of generative AI, ethics plays a crucial role in overcoming challenges. Let's dive into three key areas: toxicity, hallucinations, and intellectual property issues. 🌐🙅♂️ 🧪 Toxicity: combatting harmful content Marginalized and protected groups deserve respect. How can we tackle toxic language or discriminatory content? Two techniques emerge: 1️⃣ Curating the Training Data: Removing toxic content to promote inclusivity. 2️⃣ Constitutional AI: Integrating a second guardrail model to identify and rewrite toxic text if needed. 🌀 Hallucinations: untangling misleading information Sometimes AI models generate false statements or hallucinations. While eliminating them entirely may be challenging, techniques like RAGQA help us provide context through retrieval and citations. 🔐 Intellectual property issues: protecting creators' rights Plagiarism and copyright concerns can arise in the AI world too. But don't worry, this is a priority. Collaborative efforts involving tech, policymakers, and legal mechanisms aim to address these concerns and ensure transparency. 😱 Jailbreaking: when AI goes rogue Imagine an AI responding to unethical or biased questions despite preventive measures. Jailbreaking poses a real threat. Publication Opportunity on AI and Ethical and Legal Dillemas: Call for Chapter Proposals: "Ethical and Legal Dilemmas of Artificial Intelligence in Latin America" 🌎✨** David Ramírez Plascencia (Universidad de Guadalajara, México) and Rosa María Alonzo González (Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, México) are on the lookout for abstracts for an exciting edited collection titled “Ethical and Legal Dilemmas of Artificial Intelligence in Latin America.” 📚 This volume, which is set to be submitted to Palgrave Macmillan’s Global Ethics Series, has already sparked considerable interest from the publisher. As 2024 witnesses a global uptick in applications like ChatGPT, discussions around Artificial Intelligence have intensified, highlighting its potential beyond commercial and entertainment sectors to include financial, scientific, and military realms. 🚀 The advent of AI technologies, capable of emulating human knowledge acquisition and application, brings with it a mix of enthusiasm and concern. This includes ethical issues related to automated weaponry, privacy threats, and the potential risks of AI governance over financial and defense systems. 🛡️ The aim of this volume is to critically and comparatively explore how AI could potentially solve traditional socio-economic issues in Latin America, while also considering the risks and barriers to its adoption. These concerns range from the absence of adequate legal frameworks to ethical dilemmas and the safeguarding of user data against misuse. 📉🔒 Topics of interest for this call include but are not limited to, AI in media production (fake news, deepfake, labor issues), algorithms and gender disparity, AI in education, climate change, crime prevention, social challenges like pollution and traffic, and the enhancement of public transparency. ✨ Abhishek Gupta is sharing a very insightful article on why ALL VOICES should be included in establishing continuously evolving responsible AI principles. 2 years ago, the most common responsible AI principles among AI practitioners were focused on "fairness, privacy, security, safety, accountability, transparency, and sometimes inclusiveness", now from Maurice Jakesch's research, I see much more emphasis on values-based principles including "autonomy, solidarity, dignity, and sustainability". It looks like the general population's concerns about the unintended consequences of AI have shifted toward the impact on Humanity as a collective. It is also interesting to see the gap between what AI practitioners believe to be of priority towards responsible AI and ethics versus US-census participants and underrepresented minorities (women and black respondents), ALL should work hand-in-hand. #ai #ethicalai #responsibleai #principles #allvoicesmatter
