👀 Can everybody have a green job? Reflecting on a recent podcast episode where I had the opportunity to contribute, the Second Nature, a project from the Commons Project, we explored the transformative power of integrating sustainability into our careers. One key takeaway from the podcast was the capacity (should we say duty?) to turn every job into a green job or, if you love your current job, to advocate for greener practices. We must consider how we can contribute to transforming every industry, company, or department into a place that benefits the planet. Deloitte's 2022 survey underscored this, revealing that over half of global business leaders attribute their companies' sustainable actions to employee activism. It's encouraging to see the impact of advocating for greener practices. However, I recently spoke with two connections looking to transition into environmental fields, who highlighted the challenges they face despite their professional experience. This underscores the importance of making green careers accessible to all, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, feels included and valued in the sustainability movement. The podcast underscored the empowering truth that skills like communications, finance, and organizational management are invaluable in sustainability roles. This highlights that people from diverse backgrounds can transition to green jobs and apply their unique talents to sustainability actions, making a significant difference. Whether you're already in a green career or considering a shift, every step towards sustainability counts. It's about aligning our efforts and professional journeys with our planet's well-being and realizing that our individual actions contribute to a larger, collective effort. ✋Let me know your thoughts about it! Qual a melhor maneira de se conhecer uma cidade? Fui a Florianópolis para participar do Summit Cidades, que reuniu mais de 350 palestrantes dos setores público e privado. Foram dezenas de palestras destinadas a gestores públicos, iniciativa privada e população em geral, com o objetivo de promover debates, capacitar participantes e exibir projetos desenvolvidos pela cidade e pelo estado de Santa Catarina. Foram três bons dias de encontros, mas a maior lição veio de fora do evento, no Morro da Cruz, na comunidade Monte Serrat. Graças a uma conexão feita no Summit, fomos convidados por Claudio de Paula a participar do Caminho da Negritude, um passeio turístico de base comunitária do movimento Viva Monte Serrat. Pois é assim que se conhece um território: entre a comunidade. Foi aí que minhas "descobertas" começaram. O Monte Serrat, ocupado desde o século XIX por escravos em fuga, é um símbolo de resiliência e luta. Em 1910, recebeu o primeiro reservatório de água da Ilha, mas, ironicamente, a água encanada só chegou à comunidade em 1983. O caminho nos leva por uma escadaria de mais de 200 degraus, acompanhando tubulações até o topo, e cruzando o quilombo urbano do Pastinho, que mantém características de ancestralidade e práticas culturais negras. Escutamos as histórias da formação da comunidade e sobre figuras importantes como Dona Uda Gonzaga, a primeira professora negra local, e Padre Vilson, defensor dos direitos sociais. Grande parte dessa história é contada por filhas e netas das lavadeiras, importantes símbolos da resiliência e força das mulheres que sustentavam a família lavando roupas em bicas naturais. Esse protagonismo feminino no morro, desde suas origens, reflete ainda hoje na comunidade. “Esse é um morro de mulheres”, disse Priscila, uma das condutoras do passeio. A história das lavadeiras é a história do território, das pessoas que compõem o que é hoje Florianópolis. Junto à grande Caixa d’Água, que tem papel na organização do local e é o principal espaço público da comunidade, está instalado um monumento à memória e homenagem às lavadeiras. A riqueza em cada história ouvida me fez entender Florianópolis de uma maneira mais profunda – seus processos, características, demandas e lutas. Saí com um desejo ainda mais forte por um futuro próspero, de respeito e cuidado a essas comunidades locais que são também a origem da ilha. *Fotos durante o Caminho da Negritude. Assisti ontem ao webinário de lançamento da publicação “Filantropia e Comunicação Comunitária: caminhos para o fortalecimento da comunicação por direitos no contexto da sociedade civil no Brasil”, da Rede Comuá. Este é um tema que me apaixona, e foi inspirador ouvir jornalistas como Renata Saavedra, Diego Cotta e Tony Marlon, que compartilharam suas experiências e visões sobre o fortalecimento da comunicação comunitária. Durante o evento, foi ressaltado como a comunicação dos territórios é essencial para fornecer informações contextualizadas que a mídia homogênea muitas vezes não alcança e combater os "desertos de notícias”. Segundo a pesquisa, quase 50% dos municípios brasileiros não têm sequer uma organização jornalística local. A publicação também destaca o fortalecimento do jornalismo local como ponto central para o desenvolvimento das comunidades e a defesa da democracia. Os desafios dessa comunicação são muitos. A falta de recursos, proteção, distribuição e acesso ainda são entraves significativos. Porém, a pesquisa aponta soluções, onde mídias periféricas, independentes e comunitárias podem atuar como parceiras-chave para organizações do campo da filantropia de justiça socioambiental e comunitária. E o inverso também, com a filantropia fortalecendo ecossistemas locais de informação. Um exemplo disso, trazido por Rodrigo Montaldi, é o trabalho do Fundo Casa Socioambiental, onde estratégias são elaboradas a partir das demandas dos territórios, identificadas através de um processo de escuta. A publicação é realmente rica e fica aqui minha indicação. Afinal, comunicar e contar histórias dos territórios é também uma forma de preservá-los e cuidá-los. This topic is dear to me, and it's inspiring to hear journalists share their experiences and insights on strengthening community communication. The publication emphasizes the central role of strengthening local journalism in community development and democracy. Challenges such as lack of resources, protection, distribution, and access remain significant. However, the research suggests solutions where peripheral, independent, and community media can partner with organizations in social and environmental justice philanthropy. In reverse, philanthropy can bolster local information ecosystems. The publication is insightful and highly recommended. Yesterday, I participated in a genuine and voluntary conversation that amazed me. 🌟 I believe everyone here looking for a job understands how frustrating and exhausting this process can be. For me, it's a roller coaster. At times, I'm incredibly excited about positions that perfectly match my profile and projects that would be a dream to be involved in. Other times, I'm completely drained after a selection process that doesn't even send a rejection, let alone feedback. But yesterday, Oliver Dauert and Mikael Hietala, allies at Eco-allies, generously offered their time to help folks who have their eyes open or are actively seeking a new job. It was a nearly 2-hour conversation filled with valuable information exchange and tips. What truly inspired me, though, was their perspective. Oliver and Mikael, having been recruiters themselves, empathize with the job search process and understand what it's like to be "on the other side." In this job search journey, I often put myself in the recruiters' shoes to understand their thoughts. If only more people approached recruiting with their mindset. Both mentioned that they seek 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 even more than experience and value 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐝𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 over results. This resonates with me deeply - not because I lack experience or results to show, but because I truly believe in the power of personal motivations and passions and our capacity to always grow. Whenever I get enthusiastic about a job opportunity, it's because it offers me the chance to work on things I love and that excite me, combined with the chance to share, learn, grow, and expand. It's about being among passionate people who naturally have so much to teach me, not just through highly relevant professional experiences but through personal experiences and the unique perspectives they bring from life/professional paths, big or small. I am optimistic that most recruiters and HR teams can also be guided by these traits and skills, especially in the environment, climate, and sustainability fields where we all need passion and motivation. #EcoAllies #JobSearch #Recruitment #Motivation

O Observatório do Clima lançou o Informe Brasil 2045, referente ao período de janeiro a maio deste ano, que monitora coletivamente as políticas públicas relacionadas à agenda climática nacional. Logo na capa, Porto Alegre invadida pela água, tragédia que evidencia a importância deste trabalho de acompanhamento, sob diversos olhares de organizações da sociedade civil, da agenda climática nacional. Segundo a publicação, cerca de 35% dos municípios do país são considerados suscetíveis a deslizamentos, enxurradas e enchentes, de acordo com levantamento do governo federal. E quantas outras ameaças críticas o país inteiro vive nesse momento. A imprevisibilidade dos danos, como evidenciado pelas enchentes no Rio Grande do Sul que afetaram quase o estado inteiro, deixa clara a urgência de abordarmos essas questões com seriedade e eficiência. Some days/weeks are particularly heavy for all of us. One bad news story seems to pull in another, and it feels like the climate crisis will swallow us much faster than we projected. But we must work to prevent this and also trust in our optimism and the imagination of a better future. It is not the first time I've mentioned Rob Hopkins here, exactly because I appreciate his "imaginative" perspectives so much. In April, he launched the Ministry of Imagination, which, as the title explains, is an imagination-based manifesto for times that need one. Well, let's say this week I needed. It is a collection of imaginative thoughts from cutting-edge thinkers about a 2030 future in which everything turns out well. ✍️Have you ever thought about the countless decisions that go into crafting a single message? Although I've never written about communication here, it's my field. Working with sustainability, the environment, and social causes is my passion. Connecting these things is how I feel I contribute to our society. I believe in the transformative power of communication and its ability to connect, inspire action, and change. I've often supported non-communicators in their efforts to create content and raise awareness, especially through volunteer work. These experiences have made me realize and see more clearly the complexity of my work and the depth of effective communication. Communication is a nuanced field. It involves countless subtle decisions in crafting each message, from the words we choose to the images we select. Much of this comes from a deep understanding of institutional goals - aligning each project and its communication to serve the broader organization's mission. As our world faces pressing social and environmental challenges, socio-environmental communication becomes ever more crucial. Effective communication is essential for public engagement and action. Our strategic decisions are guided by fundamental questions like "Why are we doing this?" and "What specific messages do we need?" This critical thinking ensures that our efforts are purposeful and impactful. There's a unique joy in transforming a jumble of information and decisions into a compelling story. I hope this process, this art of communication, resonates with my fellow communicators, who, like me, find beauty in the intricate details that shape every message. #Communication #Sustainability #StrategicCommunication #PublicEngagement

Who do you turn to for support in your environmental efforts? 🌱 On this World Environment Day, I want to express the joy of recently finding a group that, like me, is deeply concerned about our natural world but refuses to remain paralyzed. For some time now, I've been following Oliver Dauert here, along with his project, Wildya, which aims to create a "nature-positive community." The idea is to share victories, whether personal or any good news connected to the environment, exchange learnings and support one another. This post isn't exactly to promote this community but to share the joy of connecting with people with similar revolutionary ideas. A group that doesn't present itself by title, position, or organization but through their favourite animals, passions, and ways they can help. Just bringing the environment to the forefront of any relationship is already a tremendous idea. Taking all this to another level and getting hard on the positivity, I feel that building strong and resilient communities (locally or globally) will make a big difference in our future. Experiencing and witnessing the entire climate tragedy caused by the floods in my region, I see this clearly. When larger systems fail, we can rely on the strength of our local communities. Grassroots revolutions grow stronger through networks of like-minded people. Together, we can achieve monumental change. ♀️Every woman's victory is everyone's victory. This is not intended to be a political message, but Claudia Sheinbaum has made history as the first woman elected President of Mexico. Her victory is a milestone for gender equality for all of us. "No llego sola, llegamos todas. Con nuestras heroínas y ancestras, nuestras hijas y nuestras nietas." Sheinbaum's background as a climate scientist and her commitment to renewable energy and education give us even more reason to celebrate.
