Just about recovered from Sunday's Ironman 70.3 in beautiful Warsaw. It was a real game of two-thirds this one: my swimming is never fast but I got round fine; the bike leg was through beautiful woods and much, much faster than last time, leaving me in a great position for the run; but literally as I stepped off the bike at transition I got the worst cramps I have ever had in my life. And they just wouldn't go away. It took me 25 minutes to walk/hobble through transition and the first kilometre of the run. I nearly dropped out at that point. But after resting it for a bit I gave it another go. The next 20km varied from "oh this really isn't that bad now" to "OMG this is agony". The run route through downtown Warsaw was really picturesque but it was hard to concentrate on anything. There was a lot of self-talk and I don't just mean in my head but literally out loud. I sounded completely crazy but in the moment it was the only thing I could do to take my mind off it. Cramp is one of those phenomena that the more we learn about it the less we understand, so while I'll experiment with doing some things differently next time, I'll also have to put this down to "one of those days". After all the training and feeling like I had a lot of energy left in the tank, it was pretty frustrating to end the race that way. But ultimately I managed to get through it, and improved my personal best overall and especially on the bike, so lots of positives to build on. Shout-out to my partner in crime Laura Bonzanigo as well as to everyone in #Ghana who helped me along the way, especially Coach Rauf, Desmond, Foster, Michael Amankwa and the team. Shout-out too to all the Varsovians who came out to support. Particular shout-out to the girl with the cardboard sign that read "Nothing else you do today will feel worse than this". Great sentiment, though when the run leg was 4 laps, not strictly true... 🤣

Bloody well done.
Amazing - well done. Also your narrative is a metaphor for challenging but worthwhile projects that I work on sitting at my desk. So it's pretty much like I did an Iron Man too... 🙄
I really don’t know how you do it all Paul but you’re a gosh dang inspiration.
So impressive Paul Skidmore and looks like a lot of (very much type 2) fun!
Amazing - well done and congratulations!
Amazing achievement Paul 👏👏👏
Congrats Paul! Love the honesty, agony and accomplishment. Rest up!
Super proud of you Paul.
Massive achievement. Well done!!
