Today, I was out for an HVAC quote, and the homeowner proudly shared that he'd amassed four other quotes before mine. With a straight face, I couldn't help but question why he didn't round it up to a solid five – you know, for that extra quote magic.
But beyond the banter, the real deal is this: the number of quotes doesn't always equal a winning ticket. In this homeowner's quote circus, everyone quoted the same tonnage. However, during my standard due diligence, I discovered that the system was oversized.
In his case, it wasn't a feast of fantastic deals; it was a potential pitfall. Imagine forking over extra cash in utility costs, your HVAC system not lasting as long, indoor air quality not as good, noise levels greater, and comfort levels not what they should be.
Lesson learned: it's not a numbers game. Getting multiple quotes to make the best decision doesn't always equate to getting the best results, it's about vetting the right person to give you the best opportunity for success.
