"Who do you pay the most for in your company? You pay the most for the smartest person, right? In a couple of years' time or a couple of months' time, depending on which business you're in, the smartest person in your business is going to be a machine. What happens when you replace the person you have with that machine? What happens to that person's career?" Mo Gawdat, Former Chief Business Officer of Google X. https://lnkd.in/dZpDTrRB

“Throughout our 30-year friendship that's included a decade as business partners, we have had to learn how to coexist despite our sharply contrasting personalities. Neither of us gives in easily; you might say we are both headstrong. Our sharply different processing styles have made for some challenging encounters. We learned in college that committing to relationships and personal growth was a worthwhile endeavor; however, folks forgot to mention how easy that was to say and hard to live. When we first became friends, we found a shared love of music, outrageousness, and pursuit of quality lives. These foci helped us to establish common ground, which was necessary but insufficient for a life-long friendship. When our different upbringings would bump heads, we had to figure out how to work through the challenges. Being young we assumed that since we were the center of the world all beings would communicate exactly as we did. From the beginning of our relationship, we were committed to bridging communication gaps.” To read more about Dr. Ryan Cate Gibson (she/her) and Thea Harvey-Barratt’s relationship, get your copy of The Four Rules of Confrontation at Amazon! #HolisticPerformance #HPG #community #WorkForceDevelopment #team #fourrulesofconfrontation #effectivecommunication

How are we connected? Does everybody feel this way? We travel over a year of Mike Transgate’s life and how the events of him and his friends affect him. Would he do things differently, feel the same way, or would someone else do it differently? Or given the chance would he do it all differently? Thought-provoking and interesting! Highly recommend this read to all! https://lnkd.in/gxQ_MnzY

#18 WeekWise: Warren Buffett's Annual Letter, what is happening at Google, and why American politics is undergoing a racial realignment. This week, I read Berkshire Hathaway’s Annual Letter, written by Warren Buffet, arguably the most accomplished investor of our time and perhaps the individual with the deepest understanding of the economy's workings. Every year, Warren Buffet writes this letter explaining the performance of Berkshire Hathaway in an easy way, so “everyone” can understand it. A few weeks ago, Google unveiled its new version of Gemini AI (previously Bard), which sparked controversy due to accusations of racism and inaccuracy. This past week, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google sent an internal memo acknowledging that this situation is “completely unacceptable and we got it wrong.” and that “We've [Google] always sought to give users helpful, accurate, and unbiased information in our products. That's why people trust them.” He also promised structural changes, which implies layoffs. A few weeks ago, I shared an article estimating what would be the results of the American elections based on different combinations of demographics: gender, ethnicity and/or education level. In this case, I actually read the opposite: American politics is in the midst of a racial realignment. If you want to read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/dG2WPuek

As I am on my journey for my next career opportunity, I have been on a quest for self-development to enhance my leadership skills in TA. One area that I am really focused on gaining more knowledge is around DEI. I just completed an amazing course on Building Diverse Talent Pools. As TA Leader it is my duty to educate and train my recruiting team on the importance of diverse talent pools and develop and execute strategies to obtain those talent pools. Through this course I was able to gain more knowledge around establishing a framework for diversity and inclusive hiring and learn different strategies to achieve that. One thing I've always enjoyed doing in position is evaluating how my team and company sources talent. Now I'm able to evaluate those sourcing methods through a more strategic, DEI lens. The best way to attract candidates is through our messaging. This course has given me the tools and confidence to speak up more about inclusive language or lack their of in a companies messaging. This course has really given me strategies, more knowledge and confidence in my efforts to bring in diverse talent to an organization. I'm excited for the next course I will take in this program and learning from my other peers in this class. #inclusivehiring #TAleadership #itsajourney #diverserecruiting

Scaling a company is never easy, especially when it comes to hiring. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt knew this all too well. In a recent interview, Marissa Mayer shared a story of how Schmidt reinvented Google's hiring process, frustrating everyone at first. He limited the number of new hires to just 50, creating a black market for "Larry & Sergey" bills used to hire new employees. Despite the initial pain, this new process made the company more thoughtful about scaling and where to put resources. As Mayer notes, hypergrowth is fun, but it's important to prioritize growth in terms of users and revenue, not just company size. Expect every process to break and be willing to reinvent it, even if it means creating a black market for laminated dollar bills.
