𝑴𝑨𝑵𝑵𝑬𝑹 𝑶𝑭 𝑨𝑷𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑨𝑪𝑯. Have you been in a situation where your friend, course-mate, enemy or even your church member was selected or attended to, yet you are still standing? Do you realize the anger that you feel within? Have you been in a situation where you ask yourself "Why him/her?." One factor to consider when you are in this situation is "Manner Of Approach" which people neglect a lot. I was working on some clients graphics when two neighbouring apprentice walk up to me. "Sir, I came to collect your oraimo cord, I want to use it; The first girl said. "Please sir, help me with your cord, I want to use it to learn how to copy pictures to system." I picked my cord and handed it over to the second girl. Why sir, I was the first to ask. They always said "First come, First serve." The first girl complained. ______________________________ Do you noticed something in the second girl speech? It sounded formal, pleadingly and respectful. There are three key words in the second girl's speech. 📌 "Please Sir,": Beg before you address. Begging makes the listener to focus and concentrate, in order to hear what you are about to say. 📌"Help me": As long as you are not the owner of the property, before you beg for anything, use "HELP ME WITH" etc.. They are the owner, beg them to help you with thier property. 📌 Give a reason: It relief the mind of the owner to know what you are actually going to use his/her property for. Give them a positive and honest reason. Put this into practice, and you will see how people shall stop telling you "I AM BUSY", but start giving you a listening hear. Great insight, but I think that we all do what we think is the most impactful, most important, and perhaps the most long-lasting....at that point in time, and per our personal criteria. Maybe not someone else's criteria (i.e. our partner, our boss, or our friend,/family) but it's what we think it should be. When we look back, we may not have the same conclusion, but that is just because hindsight is 20:20. Even when we "waste time", we probably justify it as "chillin'"...and that's ok. Unfortunately, there is only one "optimum" but several "sub-optimum" scenarios. Hopefully we pick an impactful and important option. No one has a personal algorithm that tells them exactly what is the "most" and/or how to always play it out exactly as planned. We work towards what is the best...at that point in time and with the resources we have available. Play the life cards as best you can, with what was dealt. 😊

In a 2014 commencement address, Jim Carrey shared three lines that will change the way you think about life: 1. "Fear is going to be a player in your life, but you get to decide how much." 2. "So many of us choose our paths out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect." That 2nd line hit me hard––specifically the point about "fear disguised as practicality." Far too many times we choose the "safe" path because we convince ourselves that it's the smart or practical thing to do. I know, I've spent the better part of my adult life doing exactly that. I understand, not everyone's life situation is the same. Sometimes, the conservative path, the practical path, is the right one to take. But more often than not, we make that decision based on fear of the unknown. We spend hours upon hours coming up with all of the reasons we can't live our dreams––we convince ourselves that the life we hoped for just isn't in the cards. It's, as Carrey says, "impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect." Carrey goes on to relay a story from his childhood: "My father could have been a great comedian, but he didn't believe that was possible for him so he made a conservative choice. He got a safe job as an accountant and when I was 12 years old, he was let go from that safe job." What Carrey says he learned brings us to the 3rd and final line I'd like to share: " I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which was that: You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love." Who would YOU send one to and what would you say? 2 things yesterday reminded me of the power of the written / spoken word and in the spirit of February - love, friendships, relationships an invitation to you to get writing.... (1) I listened to Sharon Peake conversation/ interview with Simon Alexander Ong about his award winning book Energise - at the end he suggested a simple yet powerful 3 step process to help you get out of a funk by focussing on what you appreciate in someone else, write out all the reasons why they've influenced / shaped you and then call them to read it out.... (2) First Teachers Appreciation Day at my son's school. Simple white postcards personalised by each child (drawings, stickers, words...) of why they appreciate their teachers.... same idea but without each child saying it aloud (maybe an improvement for next year....) - the teachers 💖💖💖💖 it and the children felt 🥳🥳🥳🥳 The practise of recognising, appreciating and articulating that appreciation in a sincere way is a beautiful gift for both parties.... 💖🌟Just imagine how incredible it would feel to give this sort of gift to those you appreciate in your personal and professional life.... add a 💞 below in the comments if you have done this (or will do it today)
