"My role mainly consists of performing transthoracic echocardiograms on Adults – ultrasound scans of the heart. Echocardiograms are one of the most requested diagnostic cardiac investigations! My favourite thing about performing and reporting echocardiograms is that it's a relatively painless and easy test to undergo for the patient and at the same time provides a detailed examination of the structure and function of the patient's heart. This enables a clear diagnosis of structural abnormalities and allows the implementation of a treatment plan if required. A key part of my role is ensuring patients understand the reason for the test and what to expect during the examination."
