"CDP's approach to addressing politically challenging and conflict-based contexts is centered on the four core humanitarian principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence."
Sharad Aggarwal, VP of Fund Management and Coalition Building wrote in PEAK Grantmaking Insights about how the Center for Disaster Philanthropy navigates the challenging world of funding in complex humanitarian emergencies. Read more at:

This year, numerous natural disasters have taken place and resulted in catastrophic humanitarian situations.😔 Since, the victims of such disasters have been very close to our network of friends and connections, ❗our awareness and education regarding the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) that must be met in catastrophic Humanitarian situations became crucial.
❗Such situations necessitate rapid collaboration and action 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 and affected 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽le. The crises are not one-time shocks; their impact can last for years.
▶️The course "Introduction to Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS)" can serve as an effective tool for raising awareness of CHS.
◾ CHS should be the guide for everyone working in any humanitarian response.
◾If everyone uses the CHS as a common standard, it will improve the quality, accountability and effectiveness of humanitarian assistance.
◾The CHS puts affected people at the center of the response, ensuring their fundamental human rights are protected, in particular, the right to life with dignity and the right to protection and security.
◾The GHS is measurable standard, so everyone knows what can be delivered and how. It is also verifiable, allowing you to demonstrate what you have or have not done.

I'm excited to share the findings of a groundbreaking research project that I had the privilege to contribute to, in collaboration with CDAC Network. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes that shook Türkiye and northwest Syria in February 2023, our dedicated team embarked on a mission to unravel the intricate web of information flows and communication dynamics in this crisis-stricken region.
Why is this research significant?
In the face of multiple concurrent crises, communication is not just a tool; it's a lifeline. The report we're presenting today sheds light on how humanitarian communication can bridge gaps, rebuild trust, and empower communities in their journey towards recovery.
We invite you to join us in this mission to empower crisis-affected communities. Let's work together to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those who need it most, and that the voices of the affected are heard and respected.
Together, we can champion the cause of Humanitarian Response, Community Engagement, and Accountability, and make strides in Humanitarian Aid, Empowerment, and Crisis Communication. Let's turn knowledge into action and create a brighter, more resilient future for northwest Syria and all crisis-affected regions.
We hope that the insights shared in this research will serve as a valuable resource for humanitarian responders, policymakers, and organizations dedicated to making a positive impact in crisis-affected areas. This project was funded by the H2H Network’s H2H Fund, which is supported by Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

With humanitarian needs skyrocketing in 2023, the United Nations OCHA-managed Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) remained a crucial element of the global humanitarian architecture.
Last year, CERF allocated $667.9 million to enable our humanitarian partners in their efforts to provide life-saving assistance for 32.8 million people across 40 countries.

In 2023, as climate-related emergencies continued to worsen humanitarian situations for at risk communities worldwide, the United Nations OCHA-managed Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) allocated the highest ever amount of USD 201.8 million to help respond to the needs of approximately 10 million people across 19 countries affected by climate-related disasters.
With a focus on helping the world’s most vulnerable people get ahead of the devastating consequences of the #ClimateCrisis, CERF is the world’s leading humanitarian funding tool for responding to climate-related disasters and helping communities prepare for predictable emergencies before they strike.

➡ This! "The last thing the aid sector needs is more concepts and jargon, but we do need the right language to describe the collective effort of what international actors are trying to achieve in crisis settings."
✔ And this! "The assumptions on which the nexus was built simply aren’t valid and experience points to the need for a reevaluation of the concept. The system needs to be designed differently."
📢 And this! "A more radical shake-up is required."
💡 As I wrote in 2022, "In a crisis, how we save lives is just as important as the act of saving them."

CARE and Save the Children US today announced a new partnership to bring more urgent relief, including cash assistance, to vulnerable families affected by disasters in the U.S.
This announcement comes in advance of the start of what experts from the Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project have projected to be an “extremely active” 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, with well above-average activity expected. The season, running from June 1 to November 30, is anticipated to witness heightened hurricane activity, particularly from mid-August to mid-October, with a peak in mid-September.
