2024 & The DEIB Dilemna reminds me of our very first #TechnoBrew conversation with Natalie Gagné of Build a Dream back in August 2023. #DEIB, the focus our conversation, remains top of mind and requires intentional effort to create meaningful change in the tech industry. If the post-pandemic workplace experience has taught us anything it’s that successful implementation doesn’t happen organically.
Elon Musk famously announced that “DEI must DIE” in the last month amidst corporate backlash against poorly executed and bureaucratically stifled programs and initiatives symptomatic of systemic challenges and flawed design.
Despite this, research shows that DEIB initiatives, well constructed and executed, in combination with inspired and informed leadership, results in significant returns associated with EBIT margins, shareholder return and revenue growth according to Harvard Business Review and supported by a massive survey conducted by DDI to produce their 2023 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report.

Representing Hewlett Packard Enterprise with my colleagues Stacey Mendez, Samantha White, Michael D., Christelle Crose, MBA, Erica Berry-Lozano, MBA, CM, and many more under the visionary leadership of Lavonne Monroe, I had the opportunity to participate in OBSIDI's 2023BFUTR Global Tech Summit, and what an electrifying experience it was! The sheer magnitude of unbounded talents, over 20,000 empowered remarkable individuals, on display left me utterly awestruck. The dedication and hope that filled the rooms and expo section were immeasurable. This Summit vividly demonstrated that we're not merely bridging technology gaps; we're leaping over them into an inclusive future.
The atmosphere was charged with unity and respect, where we shared not only insights but also care, unconditional love, and an abundance of compassion. At the heart of it all were empathy and an unwavering willingness to uplift each other. It's within these connections that genuine empowerment and boundless inspiration thrive.
To me, the 2023BFUTR Summit was a testament to the fruits of relentless hard work and unwavering determination. More importantly, it was heartening to see numerous companies recognizing the talents that sprung from hard work and resilience, ready to champion and recruit exceptional black tech talents. But that's not all. I had the privilege of meeting outstanding leaders from participating organizations, forming friendships transcending diverse backgrounds and leadership levels, and witnessing everyday heroes crafting legacies.
As I witnessed the future of technology unfold before my eyes, it stirred a thought - envisioning the monumental growth when we join forces with Shifting TechMindset Outreach Program (STOP) to empower the next generation early.

At a recent event, a thought sparked a profound reflection: the baby born today may well work in an Organisation that doesn't even exist yet. This notion challenges traditional ideas around education and career paths. Asking a child today what they want to be when they grow up might be a superficial question in this context.
As our generation and the next face inevitable crises, the readiness of future generations hinges on how we educate them. Social media has bred jealousy over fabricated images, leading to a cycle of envy over non-existent realities. How will this digital landscape shape the psychology of today's newborns as they mature?
Reflecting on the type of leadership needed in our homes, offices, and governments is crucial. True leadership transcends mere election cycles and it needs to seriously revolve around nurturing the aspirations of the next generation. It's about paving the way for a future that is yet to take shape.

🌌 Sometimes, when you need a platform most, you have to build one yourself.
Those who know me best know I've made a few pivots in my career. But in the process of being at that "bottom of the mountain" so many times before, I've learned some pretty incredible things.
• Whether through the transformative experience of co-founding Future Leaders in Politics CT...
• Or sprinting down the innovation path in the early days at the Werth Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation...
...and through so many other experiences, I've harnessed the power of community to supercharge my purpose and add meaning to my work.
But like many of my younger colleagues, being a digital native in 2022 hardly prepared me for GenAI's meteoric rise. Even today, it's still not exactly clear how we best harness the power of emerging technologies in data processing, learning, and creativity. That's where it started for many of us—but you've heard that story before.
Over time, it got me thinking:

After nearly four months of conversations with some of the most insightful minds in AI (& fueled by the wisdom of some incredible mentors), I've gleaned too many insights to sum up in a single post.
