The American Automotive Association (AAA) is projecting that 70.9 million travelers will head 50 miles or more from their homes for this holiday weekend… which means 70.9 million travelers are bracing for traffic. Cities are preparing to manage not only the traffic but also parking. One of the main challenges cities experience is keeping parking accounted for and moving. For many, the answer is to digitize current city infrastructure. Digitizing infrastructure, parking specifically, creates smarter, more data-driven communities that are better able to withstand and manage busy seasons. This is especially important when 75% of people have been deterred from going out because of bad parking infrastructure. Better digital preparation for surplus parking is crucial to ensure cities are accurately managing parking and drivers feel empowered to park. Are you heading out of town this holiday weekend? As the countdown for Christmas begins I thought I would share my top 5 parking predictions for 2024. Tackling ‘autobesity’ will become a key issue now more than 150 car models are too big for regular parking spaces. A full National Parking Platform (NPP) will go live, paving the way for an Open Market for parking, allowing motorists to pay for parking using their preferred app across the UK. Councils and businesses will continue reimagining kerbside spaces to revitalise retail and hospitality in local areas, and tackle air pollution. Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ) may be extended to more cities – but providing viable, cost-effective public transport alternatives to avoid the charge is crucial. Lower speed limits could be introduced in more towns and cities to reduce emissions and improve air quality. What do you think will be the main trends in parking and road use next year? I’d love to hear your predictions. Read my full report.

The Future of Parking: Vertical Parking vs. Shared Mobility – Which Will Save Our Cities? As our cities continue to grow and evolve, how we'll handle parking becomes increasingly important. Two potential solutions to solve this are vertical parking lots and shared mobility. But which one is the right answer? Follow me Damian Danelczyk to easily access all the videos. On one hand, vertical parking lots offer a space-saving solution that could help reduce the footprint of parking in dense urban areas. By building up instead of out, we could potentially fit more cars in less space. Plus, with advanced parking systems, we might be able to say goodbye to those scratches. On the other hand, shared mobility options like car-sharing, ride-hailing, and public transportation could reduce the overall demand for parking. If more people opt to share rides or take transit, we might not need as many parking spots in the first place. The truth is that the "correct" answer likely varies depending on the region and its unique transportation needs. Ultimately, the future of parking will probably involve a mix of solutions. Vertical lots could help us make the most of limited space, while shared mobility could help reduce car ownership and parking demand. #UrbanPlanning #SmartCities #Innovation #Sustainability Credit: Tanvir Hussain

It took some time to get all the admin done, but now I'm happy to tell the world that I am taking the leap and starting to build towards my dream of positively impacting people's lifes by improving efficiencies in our everyday processes. My first point of focus is to try and make the process of finding available parking as smooth and frictionless as possible, which reduces city congestion and driver's time lost looking for parking space; as well as maximizing occupancy of available parking space and thus making more efficient use of the valuable space in cities.

The car parks vs bicycle lane debate... 🚗 Research from Melbourne found that drivers of passenger vehicles park their vehicles along a shopping strip and spend on average $27ph. 🪙 A cyclist would only spend $16.20ph. However, 6 bikes could fit into one car parking space, which would yield a potential $97.20 an hour if the car parking were to be converted to bike parking. 💵 There is also evidence from Sydney, New York, San Fransisco, Toronto and many other cities that installing bicycle lanes in lieu of car parks boosts commercial and residential property values. 📈 While it is natural for business owners to feel anxious about the potential loss of car parking, historical examples demonstrate that there is no reason for them to lose hope. Cities worldwide are increasingly recognising the advantages of transitioning away from car-centric urban planning, embracing the positive impact on health, environment, and economy. 🚴 Source: Alison Lee & Alan March https://lnkd.in/gPe5eAF4

Rethinking Urban Mobility: People Before Vehicles For too long, our focus in urban mobility and road safety has been on accommodating vehicles, not people. Traffic congestion, accidents, and pedestrian deaths paint a grim picture. It's time for a fundamental shift – one that prioritizes the safety and well-being of citizens. The current approach treats road accidents as isolated incidents, neglecting the public health crisis they represent. Pedestrians, cyclists, and two-wheeler riders – the most vulnerable road users – often face the brunt of accidents, highlighting systemic inequalities. Their needs and challenges must be central to designing safer cities. Imagine a city where pedestrians confidently navigate crosswalks, cyclists have dedicated lanes, and public transport is efficient and affordable. This vision requires a multi-pronged approach: - Prioritizing Pedestrians and Cyclists: Creating pedestrian-friendly zones, expanding cycling infrastructure, and lowering speed limits on residential streets is crucial. - Promoting Public Transport: Investing in clean, reliable, and affordable public transport systems is key to reducing reliance on private vehicles. - Safer Road Design: Designing roads with proper signage, crosswalks, and traffic calming measures can significantly improve safety. - Focus on Enforcement: Strong enforcement of traffic laws, including speeding and drunk driving, is essential to deter dangerous behaviour. This shift isn't just about safety; it's about creating livable cities with cleaner air, reduced noise pollution, and more vibrant public spaces. By focusing on people, not vehicles, we can build cities that prioritize the health and well-being of all citizens. #Mobility #TransportationManagement #UrbanMobility #EmployeeTransportation #SmartMobility #FutureOfMobility #SustainableTransportation #CommuteManagement #SharedMobility #MicroMobility #MicroMobility #LastMileTransportation #MobilityAsAService #TransportationPlanning #MobilityManagement #EFMFM #VivekJoshi "
