Reed Hastings says that broadcast will be dead in 2 years. Last year he said that linear would be dead "over the next 5-10 years" but who's counting? We kicked that prediction around recently during the Streaming Media Magazine summit (link below). #netflix doesn't have a live #news or #sports product which could also explain why they're missing the linear/broadcast boat. Live news and sports don't typically experience churn rates assuming they offer compelling content 365 days a year. Truth be told - I'm a Netflix subscriber myself but I also watch a lot of linear and broadcast television. Something tells me we'll continue this debate long after Reed's initial prediction lapses. I'd still put Gannett | USA TODAY NETWORK content on Netflix. Some viewers prefer to watch on their own schedules. Others will tune in appointment style to your linear channel(s). Just my opinion on the Charter/Spectrum - Disney Dispute... The entire system is broken. We have cable, Netflix, Amazon, The Disney bundle with hulu, Espn+, Disney and Apple TV. Then there is Paramount TV and Peacock... and more. The system is crashing with content and expenses. Cable has to offer an a la cart system and Disney is forcing a bundled agreement. Spectrum/Charter wants to tear downtime old system but Disney have its streaming to fall back on. My HOA has a bundled agreement with Spectrum. HBO, Showtime, Premium Cable, Internet, Home Phone and discount on Cellular. We are stuck without spending a lot more for HULU Live.. or YOuTube Live. Something has to change... and pain will come with the change... we are just at the beginning. Paramount will be next to fight cable.. then NBC - owned by Microsoft... I think Spectrum/Charter sees it al looming crashing down and is trying to get out in front of it.
