When tennis fans think of Wimbledon, they often picture pristine grass courts, all-white outfits, and nail-biting matches. But for food enthusiasts, Wimbledon conjures images of strawberries and cream, Pimm's Cups, and other quintessentially British treats. Let's explore the history and enduring popularity of the foods traditionally served at this prestigious Grand Slam tournament. Strawberries #Wimbledon

MUST IT ALWAYS BE COMING HOME? From a cheeky #Scottish soft drinks ad to a mayonnaise commercial starring Jack Grealish (who wasn’t even selected in the end for #England), #advertisers have gone #football crazy for the European Championships 2024. But whilst, “look to the current event” is a magnificent #marketing maxim – does it always work? Are customers going to get #football fatigue? Are brands with no definitive link and a love of the beautiful game, going to succeed? The figures seem to suggest so, but one suspects that only certain #brands (no doubt, beer and betting) will make real bucks. Who to market to, is one of the biggest posers at our networking events and we aim to expand on this, shortly. But you could start by knowing your audience and being authentic – rather than jumping on the bandwagon. PS. That doesn’t stop us from ending this piece with a plea – C’MON ENGLAND!

Friday Fun with Ringa Hora: The Strategy and Advice team held their highly anticipated Biscuit Championships this week 🍪 🏆 🎉 With initial confusion over the rules and a scandal around invitations, controversy also arose regarding regulation adherence. However, logistical issues due to the event being held simultaneously in two different locations were quickly solved, and the comps were ultimately a success. Highly motivated by anything food related, the S&A team each contributed a packet of their favourite biscuits, which were sampled and meticulously judged on appearance, aroma, flavour, and originality. No biscuit or brand name bias was involved, with all packaging removed. The official winner at the Pōneke office was the Spanders Toffee Biscuits, submitted by Rhiannon. These high-end, melt-in-your-mouth biscuits took out the top spot with their blend of buttery toffee. “They are the best by far,” said one of the top tasters. Jeff’s relentless campaign for sultana pasties once again proved fruitless, coming in last – even scoring a zero overall by one of the taste testers, who shall remain nameless. In a controversial turn of events, the title of the tastiest biscuit at the Tamaki office was claimed by the Orange Jaffa Cakes, submitted by Lucy. I know what you're thinking. Are Orange Jaffa Cakes considered biscuits or cakes? Are they even located in the biscuit aisle? However, the spirit of inclusivity was embraced, and we allowed these treats to compete. While calls for disqualification were raised, we ultimately decided to let the Jafas keep their Jaffa cakes. Top 3 results: Pōneke: 1st Spanders Toffee biscuits 2nd Double dark fudge biscuits by Bad Bakers 3rd Shrewsburys Tamaki: 1st Orange Jaffa Cakes 2nd Thin Almond Biscotti 3rd Biscoff What would your entry into the biscuit championships be? #retailindustry #biscuitchamps

Almost 20 Million Extra Pints Expected To Be Enjoyed During The Euros On the eve of the European Championships kicking off tonight, Friday 14 June with Germany versus Scotland (with Serbia versus England two days later on Sunday 16 June), new figures from the British Beer and Pub Association show that almost 20 million extra pints are expected to be sold and enjoyed during the tournament which is to the value of over £93 million in extra sales. Total sales across the 4 weeks of the Euros 298,833,559 - £1,434,401,082 Which includes an uplift of 19,548,061 - £93,830,695 This means that across the month of the tournament, the BBPA expects today pint sales of just over £1.4 billion (including the £93 million uplift), representing almost 300 million pints being sold (including the extra £19.5 million). Emma McClarkin, Chief Executive of the British Beer and Pub Association “Football fans know that the best place to watch live sport, if you can’t be in the stadium itself, is down the pub. Whether you are supporting England or Scotland or cheering on another team, there can be no better place to watch the Euros and sharing a few refreshing beers than with friends than in your local. It is a stark fact that UK pub goers will be paying the highest beer duty than any of the other competing nations in the Euros, including twelve times more then German and Spanish rates. However, with a predicted extra 20 million pints set to be poured during the tournament, worth an extra £93 million in sales, I encourage anyone wanting to watch the football to go to the pub and support their local.” The BBPA has also designed and published the definitive Euros wallchart which also contrasts the different beer duty rates across the different competing nations. As you will see, England and Scotland beer drinks will face the highest duty rates, in stark contrast, as Emma’s quote says, to German or Spanish fans who are charged 12 times less – a Euros league table that neither English or Scottish would want to be topping. The chart can be found here. Read More:

Are your pubs and bars match fit for kick-off? No one wants to be Jack Grealish and miss out on success with Euro 2024 this month so we've put together a quick last minute checklist to ensure your venue is selected for Euro 2024. International flags and bunting - make sure flags are securely attached to walls and flush against ceilings, this not only ensures customers get to see the big screens unhindered, but also prevents damage from over enthusiastic supporters. Even consider running bunting around the walls and not criss-crossing the ceiling. England and Scotland Decorations - many venues will want to get behind their national teams - make sure flags are put up so as not to obscure TV and projector screens. Scotland is playing in the very first match on Friday and England play their first match against Serbia on Sunday at 8pm. Create the atmosphere for the big matches, this is where hats and flags come into play, make sure you have plenty of hats and hand flags for your respective teams, it is not just England and Scotland, but some venues might be getting behind Spain, Italy, Germany or Poland. Make the most of all the matches, yes you should be packed out for the big home nation matches but why not run a sweep stake type activity to keep the interest with your customers and drive additional traffic. At TDH Group we can supply those last minute football decoration and POS top ups to ensure you can make your venue(s) the place to watch EURO 2024. https://lnkd.in/gR-B9vaV
