https://lnkd.in/dSeJcYFn This is truly #abhorrent as well as #alarming. It is equally #disturbing and #saddening to #think that it is not unreasonable to believe that #cruelty and #inhumanity in similar situations could perhaps be found across the EU as well as #allied countries. We should never forget nor lose aim of the fact that #abuses can start on a really small scale, way closer to #home than we think. We the #citizens of the EU rightly pride ourselves in our #values and #humanrights. Indeed, we should never forget what the United bands of brothers and the #bloodties forged among our forefathers and the #Allies on the battlefields of the XX century accomplished so that we could be free today, and with the possibility to build upon so many #opportunities for future generations, as well as #ourselves. It is their legacy to us, the generations of today, and their most priceless gift to us has been the creation of the #EU. It is our duty to not only honour them but also ensure that these gifts will forever matter and #makeadifference. Repeating it once more, #humanrights are no knights in shinning armour. It is up to each and everyone of us all to promote, cherish, protect and defend them, if only through #advocacy, #mutualrespect and #dialog. In this instance, in order that #betteroutcomes could emerge for us all, #nameshaming a member state, or singling it out would not be the proper way for the #EU and international officials to react. Instead, so that mutual understanding, necessary to eradicate such situations could be built upon, we #urge the #EUinstitutions to #robustly engage with each and every member states so that these #shameful and #inhumane practices may come to an end.

Courage to Care Australia will function as an “umbrella” over the two state bodies. A joint venture between NSW and Victoria, the new company will have equal representation from each state. Courage to Care Australia Chair, Judy Glick, said that “Courage to Care Australia has been formed to foster collaboration and co-operation between the two state bodies. While Victoria and NSW will continue to operate independently, it’s hoped that this joint venture will create opportunities for sharing ideas and resources, developing joint initiatives, and avoiding duplicated effort." The formation of Courage to Care Australia will increase efficiency and ultimately impact, allowing Courage to Care to truly create a generation of Upstanders. Petition EN5849 - Don't remove Decision Making and Choice from People on NDIS. Petition Status The petition is currently open for signatures During the review process only 10 000 Australians participated in the NDIS Review which was a rushed process over 12 months. Only 1000 of those were people who identified as disabled were involved out of 600 000 accessing the scheme. We call for a more consultative and engaged process with people who identify with having a disability about the proposed removal of hiring Unregistered Independent Workers and Businesses. This process is harmful and removes Choice and Control from people. Choice and Control were one of the initial pillars of the NDIS when it was bipartisanly legislated in 2013. Petition Request We therefore ask the House to ensure that this important choice to be legislated as an option that remains a permanent choice. We hire many small businesses and individuals in the service industry and feel no need to disclose our disability who are not a Registered Provider. There is also an important choice for disabled people living independently and engaging with the community to hire Independent Support Workers for a number of reasons. It is more cost effective as we can negotiate rates which you cannot do with Registered Providers. There is more control with training and how the person chooses to be supported in their daily life.

We submitted evidence to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), highlighting how the UK Government has failed to uphold the rights of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people. To address the barriers Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people face, the report calls on the UK Government to take action on: ❌Race hate and discriminatory political discourse; ❌Role of the media in fuelling race hate speech and crime; ❌Over-representation of Gypsies, Roma and Travellers in prison; ❌Lack of site provision and tougher police powers for eviction; ❌Accessibility of the European Union Settlement Scheme for Roma. Thanks to Traveller Space, GATE Herts, Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller Friendly Churches, SOUTHWARK TRAVELLERS' ACTION GROUP LTD, LEEDS GYPSY AND TRAVELLER EXCHANGE and ROMA SUPPORT GROUP for showing support by endorsing our submission.
