In journalism, there’s nothing more powerful than #information, and #webscraping can be instrumental when acquiring it 🚀 Recently, Oxylabs has partnered with The Ferret, an award-winning investigative #journalism platform for Scotland and beyond. Thanks to this collaboration, The Ferret will have pro-bono access to Oxylabs #ScraperAPIs, helping journalists reach the farthest corners of the internet. 💬 "We're excited about partnering with Project 4β. Their tools will help us automate our misinformation and political monitoring. A lot of the data we're interested in resides across fragmented public sources. Powerful and reliable web scrapers will simplify our information gathering and boost our investigations." says Petra Matijevic, Data Journalist at The Ferret. Nous accélérons la transfo. des médias en alignant les objectifs éditoriaux, marketing, commerciaux et IT, en adaptant votre organisation, vos compétences, vos produits et vos outils grâce à l'IA notamment
𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘆. Again, this isn't my suggestion; it comes directly from the man in front of me, INMA's Earl Wilkinson speaking at the World Congress of News #Media. Having started straight off with the importance of credible, quality #journalism it didn't take him long to get down to the dirty stuff. Having noted that INMA's board sees journalism as "our North Star" Earl dares to say "I wonder if it is enough of a North Star....if our company shouldn't, in fact, be centered around influence and impact." For Upgrade Media's clients this jumps to the heart of a struggle in many boardrooms. The many news publishers we work with will, if they're honest, find themselves championing quality journalism, loud and proud, while at the same time looking longingly at the seemingly quick and dirty successes of new media models. Or as Earl puts it: "𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦𝘣 𝘪𝘴 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘺. 𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩, 𝘪𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘪𝘵? 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘵. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘎𝘦𝘯 𝘈𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘺. 𝘚𝘰 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴?" The ultimate goal has to be to maintain reputation, but simultaneously boost the impact of the brand, and impact ranges far beyond pure news. Over these next couple of days in London I'm expecting to hear (and share) more ideas about how to preserve the purity of the North Star, while making the most of the seductive, 'dirty', new possibilities. #INMA #INMA24 #INMA2024

New study exposes philanthrocapitalism’s failure to effectively back journalism in the Global South. In the fast-paced world of media innovation, the game-changing bond between news organizations and tech giants takes center stage. Armed with cutting-edge tech and deep pockets, Big Tech firms hold the keys to revolutionizing media technology and even entire media landscapes. These tech titans are also dishing out cash to fuel innovation in journalism and newsrooms, in what researchers have dubbed “philanthrocapitalism.” The clash between their roles in the media is impossible to ignore. But are these support initiatives doing more harm than good for journalism and who do they really benefit? To shed light on this matter, a team of researchers from the University of Amsterdam, the University of Botswana, Nile University of Nigeria, and the University of Toulouse conducted a study on the Google News Initiative (GNI), a funding program, and its impact on media innovation in Africa and the Middle East. The researchers interviewed 13 winners of the GNI Innovation Challenge in those countries

Executive Leader, enthusiastic MédiaLab MD, previously Euractiv CEO, also speaker and consultant on AI in Media.
Populism rises on clicks. Can quality journalism fight back? Free media are in a race for survival. Sensationalism gets attention, but at what cost to public trust? Our TRUiST research bid to European Media & Information Fund (EMIF) by Europe MédiaLab, bears a potential solution. *Spoiler alert*: It's time to switch from an impression-based ad model to a trust-based one. Imagine Trust Indicators on platforms that signal quality journalism – like the nutrition label for food. Users and advertisers are hungry for this change. With the EU pushing new regulations for the next mandate, our research could be pivotal. We have a few experts on board and would love your support. Reposts, OpEds, speaking slots? Thanks Radovan Geist, Daniel Knapp, Ivan Godársky, Gilles Vanderpooten, Christophe Leclercq for your expertise. Let's all push the media innovation that matters!
