One80 Solar has finished installing the 1 Acre Solar Array at Selby Gardens LEAF (Living Energy Access Facility). This will provide more than 115% of the power needs for the new buildings in OVERLAND's Master Plan design, with the excess power feeding existing historical structures -- reducing Marie Selby Botanical Gardens carbon footprint and helping the organization become #netpositive. The LEAF also includes a stormwater filtration system that will collect and cleanse over 1,000,000 gallons of water per year onsite which will help protect the Sarasota Bay Ecosystem. It is one of the first Living Communities in the world seeking certification from the International Living Future Institute. Video by One80 Solar.

🌟 ERBE at the 1st International Conference on Net Zero Carbon Built Environment 🌟 From July 3rd to 5th, the ERBE team attended the 1st International Conference on Net Zero Carbon Built Environment at the University of Nottingham. The conference featured keynote presentations on the challenges of achieving a net zero carbon built environment, regenerative design, solar PV systems, district heating systems, renewable energy systems, and thermal energy storage systems. Here are some key takeaways from the event: ◼ We must reconcile decarbonisation with health, amenity, affordability, and resilience. ◼ Buildings do not use energy—people do. ◼ PVs, structure, and insulation may drive embodied carbon, but they are often a necessary balance. ◼ Traditional insulation materials may not pay back their embodied carbon; bio-based materials can be an excellent alternative. ◼ Increasing a system's efficiency may not always provide decarbonisation. As the marginal cost of heating or electric lighting is reduced, people tend to use more of it. #ERBE #NetZeroCarbon #BuiltEnvironment #ZCBE #UniversityOfNottingham #Decarbonisation #SustainableDesign #RenewableEnergy #ThermalEnergyStorage #Innovation

The issues of grading and erosion controls can pose real challenges to developers looking to build solar projects that truly help communities. At Nevados, we've developed a solution that addresses these issues head-on. Our innovative solar tracker allows panels to follow the natural contours of the land, eliminating the need for destructive and expensive grading practices. Grading strips away topsoil, compacts the earth, and leaves bare dirt exposed. This results in massive erosion and runoff problems that harm local ecosystems and waterways. By preserving the existing landscape, we're not just protecting the environment – we're also ensuring compliance with regulations and avoiding costly violations. In recognition of our commitment to eliminating grading, our Bartonsville site in Northern Virginia was awarded a gold medal by the Virginia DEQ and Gov. Glenn Youngkin at this year’s Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards. Find out more on the project here: https://hubs.ly/Q02J578G0 Our comprehensive whitepaper includes more detail on grading-free solar installations. Last Thursday, DEM attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the largest solar farm in Rhode Island, located at the inactive landfill in Bristol. This impressive farm boasts 22,000 solar panels spread across 25 acres and is said to reduce the annual carbon equivalent of 375 vehicles traveling around the earth twice. This project generates 8.7 million kilowatt hours of clean, renewable energy, enough to power over 700 homes each year 🏡♻️ ! This project was completed under new regulations and DEM’s recently finalized guidelines for developing solar on closed landfills in Rhode Island. In recent years, waste regulations have been revamped to make the process of placing solar farms on closed and inactive landfills more efficient and consistent. Since closed landfills have limited ecological value and cannot support deep-rooted vegetation, promoting solar development on these sites helps preserve forests and farms. Additionally, solar development can help cities and towns cover the costs of maintaining and upgrading landfill caps, which in turn minimizes impacts on groundwater. By repurposing these areas for solar farms, we're generating renewable energy and helping preserve our precious forests and farmlands ☀🌳🌾 . Combining solar with a #greenroof. The new #Vento system for green roofs from K2 Systems GmbH complements the already established flat roof systems. It combines the advantages of #greenroofs and #photovoltaicsystems. K2 Systems GmbH already has variable solutions for green roofs in its portfolio: these range from the ballast-optimised #K2Dome systems to the flexible Triangle-Multiangle system and Tiltup Vento for various roof connections. #K2GreenRoofVento masters the challenges of installing solar systems on green roofs. This means keeping the plants at a distance while allowing them to grow. For example, the development team has taken care to minimise the disturbance to the greenery with small feet so that low-growing mosses and succulents can continue to receive light and water. #pv #solarenergy #photovoltaics #solar https://lnkd.in/eVCDk6fQ
