This can help manage real MHS referrals? How does this integrate with MHS Genesis/Cerner and by extension the Tricare managed care contractors to enable referrals? Might have missed it but where’s the EHR integration piece?
The #DepartmentofDefense is on a mission to get the right people into the right #military hospital or clinic at the right time, both medical staff and patients.
On Dec. 6, 2023, the Deputy Secretary of Defense signed a memo directing the stabilization of the Military Health System. The memo requires that the MHS add capacity to reattract patients and beneficiaries, improve access to care in military hospitals and clinics, and increase opportunities to sustain military clinical readiness for #medicalforces.
There is a clear need to stabilize the MHS. The realignment of medical personnel, coupled with a volatile #healthcare economy in the past three years, created challenges to care for beneficiaries and affected the ability to efficiently generate and sustain medically ready and ready #medical forces.

SGM Ryan Nemeth, USSOCOM Senior Enlisted Medical Advisor, and I had a great time meeting with a delegation of Ukrainian medical personnel (military and civilian) who were in town for a week meeting with clinicians from the Haley Veterans Hospital. SGM Nemeth and I talked about what the SOCOM Surgeon's Office does to provide medical support to Special Operations Forces around the world. We learned from the Ukrainians about how their frontline medical treatment and evacuation protocols have been impacted by the unique characteristics of the war there.
Most interesting was the discussion of how they've adapted the Tactical Combat Casualty Care guidelines to best support frontline treatment and evacuation of their casualties. Drones, both friendly and enemy, have impacted their protocols, as have prolonged evacuation times and the need to provide prolonged casualty care in many circumstances. The hard-fought lessons they've learned over nearly two years of war, including the need for torniquet reassessment and sometimes conversion, will help inform changes to the Tactical Care Combat Casualty Care guidelines and benefit American casualties and those of our allies in the future.

Over the last few decades, the United States Department of Defense's global health engagement strategy has evolved to better support the operational medical capability requirements of international allies and partners.
The strategy has evolved from providing assistance and supplies to “more sustained efforts that support building partner nation medical capacity and capabilities,” according to a recent article published in the BMJ Military Health Journal, by experts in the Military Health System.
“Future efforts will increasingly focus on global health security, shared military medical readiness and enhancing interoperability between allies and partners,” according to the journal article.

The S(CD)PAR framework (Launder & Penney 2023), is an all-encompassing decision- making approach applicable to emergency management.
It consists of 6 constructs: Situation Awareness, Context Assessment, Decision-making, Planning, Action and Review. These constructs were identified through the review of high-risk industries and, while they are typically followed sequentially, they can be used flexibly depending on the situation.
'In order to explore the commonalities and differences in decision-making across emergency services organisations, a systematic literature review of over 10,000 peer reviewed English-language studies was undertaken looking at sense-making and critical decision-making in police, military, ambulance and firefighting contexts.'
In October's edition of AJEM, Dr David Launder and Dr Greg Penney discuss their research on supporting decision-making in respect to SPAR(CD).

Lack of access to medical care in the US could be impacting military readiness. An NPR analysis found that 50% of active duty military installations stand within federally designated health professional shortage areas (HPSA). Those are places where medical services are hard to find — commonly called “health care deserts.”
