With over 50 high-level speakers, participants gained valuable insights and established connections within the industry through structured networking sessions.

Prize and Price
The imbalance in this world is occassioned by the fact that it is not often that the Glory goes to the goose who lays the golden egg. In other words, one may pay the price while another takes the prize.
Lithium, Cobalt and Nickel.
My first thoughts around this WEF video came with a sigh.
Let me attempt to simplify the conversation.
Climate change is primarily the impact of industrialisation on the environment. It is believed that production and usage of fossil fuel which powers cars, generators airplanes etc, damages the ozone layer leading to an upset in the normal order of the weather.
So today, we either have Hotter summers and colder winters or colder summers and hotter winters.
Now, to correct this, the world is pushing for net zero which has its eyes majorly on moving power from being sourced from fossil fuel, crude oil refining etc to being sourced from batteries.
We already have Cars with batteries, houses on batteries and even an airplane has flown for 30miles on batteries 😊
This is all great information, until you learn about what it takes to achieve batteries, the 3 materials needed are Lithium, Cobalt and Nickel. All of which will be mined and mining them has consequences.
This takes us back to the drawing table. Mining responsibly without exploiting two key players.

My first instinct was to search for the largest deposits and producers of these trio. My bias got the better of me, I wanted to be sure that Africa didn't have her head on the slaughter table 😊.

My conclusion is that there is a price to be paid for industrialisation. I only hope that whoever pays the price also enjoys the prize. We must protect the environment and protect the people as we grow.
