It's amazing that EY puts up millions of dollars every year to support an almost now four decade program in an effort to showcase our brightest trailblazer entrepreneurs across the globe. I'd like to express my sincerest gratitude to EY for simply caring the way you do about entrepreneurs. Thank you ADP and Anna Harris for nominating me for this opportunity along with being a sponsor of this year's EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program. I founded Summit Human Capital in 2018 with a clear vision of bringing never before seen human-centric values to the workforce solutions & staffing industry. We believe at this firm and always have that fundamentally changing someone's life through career passion & client mission alignment will ALWAYS be our truth and forever will. Success has not always been our story, however. In my first year as a business owner, my CPA informed me (will forever be grateful for this crucial conversation) that my cash burn rate left me with 6 months left in business before shutting the doors. You can imagine the physical and mental anguish a message like this could deliver as I fully bootstrapped our operations. No VC's, no outside capital, 100% bootstrapped firm by me. I read the book The Lean Startup and decided to make a big pivot and moved our business model to focus entirely on technology workforce solutions. I refused to get stuck in the admin side of running a business which is relentless and redirected my time entirely to business development. From there everything changed and I started to build a sound practice. The days were long and the nights all felt like one. I woke up every day at 4AM the first two years and did not get home until 8PM. Saturday and Sunday were no different. God bless my wife Nina Ildari for always supporting me during these times. We essentially didn't see each other for the first two years. However, we have never arrived. The data doesn't lie. 50% of business owners fail the first year, 80% fail the first five and over 90% fail the first ten. I think about these numbers constantly. What people don't see is the lives entrepreneurs live. You go to bed at night with so many nights resulting at staring at the ceiling thinking about the fires you and you alone can put out the next day as you continue to scale an operation beyond yourself, one year at a time. The early years you get strategic on finding ways to make payroll. You run around every day to make things happen behind the scenes that your associates never know about because they don't need to, that's on you. Heavy is the head who wears the crown. There are so many amazing entrepreneurs, the very trailblazers who create employment for the world, that I want to congratulate. I feel so humbled and blessed to be the only finalist to represent the Greater Richmond Metro Region. What a moment for our firm Summit Human Capital. I'll leave it with this - If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

There has been much discussion around transformative #innovation that explores new #horizons and potentially disrupts #businessmodels, and whether this requires an #entrepreneurialmindset on the #boardofdirectors. It is key to any organization and can make a significant difference. First, in terms of adaptation. An entrepreneurial mindset equips #leaders with the ability to adapt quickly to change, seize opportunities, and navigate uncertainty effectively. When it comes to innovation, this approach fosters a culture of innovation, where creative solutions emerge, and the organization remains agile and responsive to market demands. It is also fundamental for #employeeengagement: encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset can lead to higher employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention as employees feel their ideas are valued and embraced. Additionally, such a mindset has an impact on sustainability: in a rapidly evolving world, organizations that embrace entrepreneurial thinking are more likely to be sustainable in the long run. Finally, on the Diversity and Inclusion spectrum, an entrepreneurial mindset in leadership allows organizations to leverage diversity fully, harnessing the power of different perspectives and experiences. To achieve substantial and continued growth in the 21st century, companies will have to look beyond improving the existing business model or simply launching new products. These actions just will not generate enough #growth anymore. Growth will come from more ambidextrous organisations that excel at improving their established business model (exploitation) and excel at inventing tomorrow’s growth engines at the same time (exploration).
