How many people did you influence this week? NOT because you were in a position of power. Because you have established yourself as likable, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. I thought about this a lot this week. I spent 5 days in Napa (my happy place) with my husband and our two great friends and returned at 1 AM Tuesday morning and launched into my week with two events and being a keynote for UNFI's Women's Leadership Conference with Mimi (Marissa) Bishop. The week didn't stop there, we've had a whirlwind week meeting with people and attending events. What does this have to do with influence? In many of our conversations, my travels to Napa came up. As I shared some of the highlights from my latest experience, a couple of interesting things happened: - People now put Napa back on their 'radar' and want to plan a trip - In our conversations about wine, I was asked for wine recommendations - It even got down to the nitty-gritty of where I purchase my wine I'm not a sommelier. What I am is someone who is genuine, warm and open which cultivates the know, like, and trust factors necessary for influence. Influence is one of the most important elements to being an incredible leader, because influence isn't dictating, influence is about inspired action. #leadershipdevelopment #influence #womenwholead

In her autobiography, Indra Nooyi, former CEO of PepsiCo shares:   “I wanted to set up PepsiCo to be successful for decades and decades, not just fleetingly successful during my time as CEO. “Choose courage over comfort.” A great rallying call from Penny Grivea who joined us this week for our first Leadership Breakfast of 2024. 🙏 She shared what she’s learned about leading from nearly a decade of phenomenal growth at Rituals cosmetics in the UK and Ireland. And we reminded ourselves that the best performing teams thrive on clear organisation and alignment. It might not be sexy but it’s what sets our teams up for success. Remember the 60-30-10 rule from Richard Hackman (who may or may not be brother of Gene): - 60% of team success is in the pre-work – clarity of team, structure, roles, responsibilities, support; - 30% is in how the team is launched -- getting everybody on board the bus, clear and energised; - and just 10% is in the active coaching. In preparation for an upcoming webinar with Monique Carayol who is a leadership coach,  co- founder and host of Bravery in the Boardroom, I asked her if it is important to highlight that she is a black female entrepreneur leader and coach. Bravery in the Boardroom is a movement to increase diversity in senior leadership so that boardrooms are more representative of the communities and staff they serve, and her team is dedicated to providing resources and training to help leaders develop the skills they need to challenge the status quo, take risks, and confront uncomfortable truths. Monique said: "There aren't many people who look like her doing what she's doing, and she believes that representation is important because you can't be what you can't see. Seeing someone who looks like you or has a similar background can inspire and give courage to others, so it is important". I interestingly do not feel comfortable in being thought of as a black leader. I just want to be seen as a leader and someone who is good at their job, but seeing Monique progress her goals in a way that is authentic to her,  𝘪𝘴 inspiring and motivating and the aim of this webinar is for Monique to finally sit in the hot seat to further share her; experiences, insights, tools and techniques that she uses to influence boardrooms at a national level.
