I’ve been in many interviews where I’m asked what I like most about sales. The easy answer here is the commission check, but that’s never been my North Star. I tell a story of working with an outside sales rep who took his book of business from $0 to over $17M when I parted ways with that company. Nothing got me more excited to wake up and work towards our combined sales goals than seeing his book of business grow. "Our Customers won't sign long-term contracts. That's why we only have month to month contracts." This is what a couple of the companies we acquired over the last few years have told us. In one such instance, our Sales Director asked the new team members: "Well when was the last time you tried to get a longer term contract signed?" 🦗 🦗 🦗 🦗 🦗 🦗 A week later they closed an MRR deal north of $10K/month on a 60 month contract. All of the elite sellers I know, without exception, have been fired, put on PIP or missed quota at least once (many of them several times). And yet all of them, without exception, reached the pinnacle of earnings, achievement, and professional success. So if the end of year is looking bleak, like it has for me and many other sellers before you and many to come after you, it's okay. It's pretty simple, either buckle down and make it work next quarter... Or bail and try again at the next job. I jumped ship several times to find the right situation.
