In recent years, the hospitality industry has seen a significant shift towards prioritizing wellness, reshaping the guest experience. This evolution reflects a broader societal movement towards prioritizing holistic well-being, where individuals seek not only physical comfort but also mental rejuvenation during their travels. Guests are no longer content with merely comfortable accommodations and indulgent amenities; they crave experiences that nourish their body, mind, and soul. This growing awareness of the interconnectedness between physical health and mental wellness has led hotels to rethink their approach, transforming themselves into havens of holistic rejuvenation. The rise of wellness-focused travel is not merely a passing trend but a fundamental shift in how individuals perceive and prioritize their leisure time. In a world where stress and burnout are all too common, hotels have become sanctuaries where guests can escape the pressures of daily life and embark on transformative journeys of self-discovery and renewal. Ultimately, the convergence of hospitality and wellness represents a profound evolution in the way we travel, ushering in an era where rejuvenation, mindfulness, and self-care are not just amenities but essential components of the guest experience. As guests increasingly seek out destinations that cater to their holistic well-being, the hospitality industry continues to innovate, ensuring that every stay is not just a getaway but a transformative wellness experience. #1 Best-selling author of The Wellness Asset | I help high-performing wellness leaders create profitable wellness assets through my proven 7-step ESSENCE framework | Wellness Business Coach
I, too, have been where you are. I, too, have felt sheer and utter frustration when I didn't get wellness right. I, too, have lived those golden moments when I've been part of a hotel team where wellness rocked. And I, too, have come up, close and personal with that River of Misery - when no matter what I did, wellness never worked. I know how it feels to THINK that the entire hotel is against wellness. It was not too long ago when I thought having the grandest facilities, state-of-the-art gym equipment, the best brands and truly brilliant talent was all I needed to make wellness successful. 👉🏼 I learned the hard way that that simply wasn’t the case. I’ve been part of projects where tens of thousands were spent in market studies, training, creating flashy concepts and attracting top brands. But these projects bled money. And I’ve felt despair at the missed opportunity. I’ve also been part of very simple projects done on a shoe-string budget with ordinary but incredibly keen talent. These projects thrived. And I felt sheer joy seeing the amazing success they enjoyed. 💡 Key learning: You must get the wellness concept right from the get go. Otherwise you’re just fighting one losing battle after the next. And the ride on that emotional roller coaster gets tiring after a while. Question: 👉🏼 Can you confidently say that you know exactly how to craft the right wellness concept for your particular property? #wellness #hotels #wellnessinhospitality

How much food prep is too much when it comes to staying healthy on business travel? Is it full on client dining (best eateries) Delsey dining (room service + prepped) or A local immersive experience (cultural) This might peak your interest 👇 A recent cross-sectional analysis of a cohort study examined the association between travel and markers of a healthy diet through the lens of the type of diet consumed. Increased fruit and vegetables versus red and processed meat. The results showed that engaging in all types of travel was positively associated with fruit and vegetable consumption and negatively associated with more frequent red and processed meat consumption. Notable was that cycling as a form of travel had the strongest correlation. While cycling to business trips is not an option for the majority, it got me thinking about where business travellers might be on the spectrum. ❓ Have you ever come home from being on the road and craved fresh fruit or vegetables? ❓Do business trip meals leave you unenthusiastic about food ? ❓Do you routinely make time to pack sustaining snacks as part of your travel preps? I’ve had my fair share of spilt protein powder in my luggage oops! and I’ve overcome it to create the habit of having some nutrient dense food with me at all times when I travel, how about you? #travellerwellness #roadwarrior #businesstravelwellbeing #travelnutrition -------------------- I'm Chris, Workplace Wellness Advocate. Health and wellness continue to be a focus and buzz topic within the hospitality industry. Hotel Business Magazine recently connected with Jessica Shea, Vice President of Wellness, Retail, and Leisure Operations at Hilton, to delve into the latest trends and discover how her company is striving to meet guests' needs. "I’ve worked in hospitality for 20 years, and I have never seen a time when health and wellness have been more important to our guests. Coming out of COVID, it is probably no surprise that people are much more focused on their health and well-being and understand that holistically taking an approach of prevention to disease and overall well-being is much more important than ever to people across the world." #healthandwellness #wellnessindustry #wellbeing

We often discuss the importance of well-being, focusing on mental health, physical fitness, maintaining a balanced diet, and fostering positive social relationships. But we seldom highlight how these relate to and even depend on a sustainable environment. We cannot separate our personal health from the health of our planet. If we continue using resources at our current rate, there'll soon be nothing left for future generations. Clean air to breathe, pure water to drink, healthy food – what we need most for our physical and emotional health – would become scarce resources. The nature 🌳 around us not only provides these resources but also a sense of tranquility and peace – both essential for our mental health. But are we doing enough to safeguard it within businesses? When we embrace sustainability 🌍, we aid our well-being and help create a supportive environment for ourselves and our guests. Who wouldn't want to live in a world where clean water, fresh air, and clear skies aren't luxuries confined to a vacation, but our everyday reality? So the next time we focus on our well-being 🏋️♀️🧘♂️, let's not forget the well-being of the planet too. After all, sustainable practices today could bring about a healthier tomorrow for all of us. Remember, well-being without sustainability is not only pointless but impossible in the long run. Excited to be The Hotel Guide podcast's inaugural guest in 2024, as we continue our work with hotel events and leisure departments to nurture a culture of wellness for both people and the planet.
