Hapag-Lloyd AG, a global leader in maritime logistics, has unveiled its highly anticipated Sustainability Report for the year 2023. The comprehensive document showcases the company’s steadfast dedication to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, highlighting a myriad of initiatives and achievements aimed at fostering a more sustainable shipping industry. In its pursuit of greener operations, Hapag-Lloyd has made significant strides towards its ambitious goal of achieving a net-zero fleet by 2045. The report reveals a notable reduction of 0.8 million tonnes in absolute greenhouse gas emissions compared to the previous year, a feat attributed to various eco-friendly measures. Among these measures is the substantial increase in the utilization of bunkered biofuel blend, surpassing 200,000 tonnes in 2023. Furthermore, the successful deployment of three new dual-fuel vessels, capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and future alternative fuels, underscores the company’s commitment to embracing sustainable technologies. #bunkering #energy #shipping #marine #maritime #petroleum #shipowners #decarbonization #technology #digitalization #energytransition #sustainable #oilandgas #cleanenergy #carboncapture #ports #greenenergy #greenshipping #netcarbonzero #society #sustainability #bunkermarket #europe #usa #uk #canada #uae #netherlands #denmark #norway #sweden #singapore #hapaglloyd #biofuelbunkering #lngbunkering https://lnkd.in/dg8ZMh5z

📣 We do have a choice in how we fly ✈️ and each of us, together 🤝🏋♀️, can support the demand 🫴 for renewable fuels including SAF and renewable diesel. We can support clean cities and reduce the impacts of grease as a waste, in the wrong system. It's very costly 🤑and energy-intensive to keep doing things the way we are. 🤔 🌟 Our decisions and practices can sway the market, and create a new revenue 💰 stream for cities that can support other sustainable projects and help keep taxes and sewer rates low. Let's collect and upcycle all our fats, oils, and grease into drop-in ready fuels ⛽️ that also reduce maintenance costs because they burn so cleanly! 🥳 🖐 Yes, it will take the whole crew 🏋♂️— airlines, manufacturers, investors, fuel companies, regulators, travelers— us — to ensure that sustainable aviation takes off. ✈️ 📣#Restaurants and catering services can support the demand 🫴 for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) ⛽️ ♻️ by using more efficient equipment to recover brown grease waste as a resource. Imagine, every meal prepared produces, on average, 0.0455 lbs of grease 👨🍳, and ALL of it can be used to make drop-in renewable fuels to support clean transportation?🤔 With the Fork-to-Fuel Initiative 🍽, it can! 👍

🚢Exploring Green Shipping Initiatives and their Benefits🚢 ✍️ Ecological Impact of Ocean Transportation Ocean transportation has significant ecological impacts, especially in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2021, emissions from ocean transportation totaled 833 million metric tons of CO2e, mainly from burning marine heavy fuel oil. To tackle this, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) aims to reduce shipping's carbon intensity by 40% by 2030 and cut GHG emissions by 50% by 2050. Besides emissions, ocean shipping also poses risks like underwater noise pollution and oil spills, requiring sustainable practices. Shipbuilders and operators are adopting strategies like quieter vessel designs and sustainable practices such as slow steaming to address these environmental concerns. ✅ Impact on Society The global shipping industry sustains millions of jobs and ensures the delivery of essential commodities worldwide. However, it can also lead to adverse social consequences such as increased pollution and congestion. Ensuring the safety and well-being of workers is paramount, and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has established regulations like the SOLAS Convention to address safety concerns. Shipping companies must also combat illegal activities onboard vessels to maintain a secure maritime environment. ✅Economic Impact Seaborne transportation is a crucial driver of economic growth, particularly in regions like the European Union, where it accounts for a significant portion of imports and exports. Globally, its contribution to GDP ranges between 2% to 3%. However, shipping companies face substantial expenses for vessel operations and regulatory compliance. To remain competitive and meet growing demand, they must focus on cost reduction, safety improvements, and customer satisfaction. ✅Future Prospects: Biofuels in Shipping Biofuels are emerging as a top choice for zero-emission fuels, with advanced technological readiness. They come in various forms like HVO and FAME and are used in specialized engines such as biomethanol. While their sustainability and scalability are evolving, biofuels offer promising supply availability compared to other zero-carbon fuel options. However, their viability for shipping depends on factors like scalability, sustainability, and cross-industry demand, notably from aviation. Critical considerations include meeting sustainability criteria and obtaining certifications as the shipping industry transitions to decarbonization. read more: https://lnkd.in/ddafQHHs #Visiwise #greenshipping #containershipping #co2emissions
