Leon on the road through Canada! 🚀 Last month our very own Food Waste Coach, Leon Sparmann, got the chance to meet some of our Canadian Food Waste ambassadors in real life! 🌍🌟 He met the amazing teams from Fairmont Royal York, Sheraton Suites Eau Clair in Calgary, Fairmont Banff Springs, Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Fairmont Pacific Rim and Fairmont Olympic. His most valuable insight during the trip was that many of these teams embrace sustainability and are intrinsically motivated to address their food waste. 🌱 We are happy to have him back in our office, full of new energy and experiences.🙌 Check out Leon's photos with the enthusiastic team!🌟 📷: Fairmont Royal York 📷: Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire 📷: The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel 📷: Fairmont Olympic Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Accor #OrbiskOnTour #Sustainability #FoodWaste #FairmontOlympic #HospitalityInnovation #Teamwork

"Eco-Friendly: How Sustainability is Redefining Tourism and Hospitality" More hotels and restaurants are now choosing to source their food and products from nearby suppliers, prioritizing sustainability. This not only benefits the environment and supports ethical practices but also provides guests with a unique and authentic experience. Consider a small hotel nestled in a beautiful countryside area. They've opted to obtain most of their food from local farmers. While this decision has its merits, it also comes with some pros and cons. Pros: Environmental Sustainability: By sourcing locally, establishments contribute to environmental preservation by reducing carbon footprints associated with long-distance transportation. Community Support and Economic Impact: Supporting local farmers and businesses helps strengthen the community and has a positive economic impact. Authentic Guest Experience: Guests can enjoy a more genuine and unique experience, connecting with the local culture through the food they consume. Seasonal Variability: Embracing seasonal ingredients adds variety to the menu, offering guests a chance to savor the freshest produce throughout the year. Cons: Limited Product Availability: Depending on local factors, the availability of certain products may be limited, potentially restricting menu options. Cost Fluctuations: Prices of locally sourced products may vary, impacting the overall cost of goods for the establishment. Logistical Challenges: Coordinating with multiple local suppliers can pose logistical challenges, affecting the efficiency of the supply chain. By navigating these challenges, hotels and restaurants can contribute to a more sustainable and responsible approach to hospitality, providing guests with an enriched and eco-friendly experience. Sustainability Matters at Sommething's Brewing - https://bit.ly/3LCKVlD In a recent piece from Dr. Gaurav Chawla, who was a leader at the University of South Wales for the BA (Hons) Hotel and Hospitality Management course, he said, “In simple words, sustainability means that natural ecosystems can continue to support life and provide resources to meet the needs of the present and future generations.” He continued, “Evidently, the hotel (Hospitality) sector puts increased pressure on the environment and is demanding on the natural resources. However, the industry also relies on the same natural environment – unspoiled landscapes, sandy beaches, turquoise waters, glaciers, waterfalls, coral reefs, and fresh air; all of which serve as great tourist attractions. Therefore, there is an inherent danger that we might harm the very basis on which hospitality is built.” #sustainability #hospitality #environment

Another great case study delivered by the team 👏 All hotels should have SMART FLOW device installed. Not just for the fast ROI but for the detection of all future water issues. It's not "if" you get an issue within your Hotel its more a case of "when". Not all leaks or faulty appliances are visible. Typically your only way to know if you have an issue is due to a high water bill. #watermonitoring #watersavings #sustainability
We are absolutely thrilled to share an inspiring success story from one of our esteemed clients, Pillo Hotel & Spa Ashbourne 🏆 Their commitment to water efficiency and sustainability has not only yielded remarkable results but also set a shining example for the hospitality industry. Here's how our SMART FLOW monitoring system made a significant difference: 👉🏻 20% Reduction in Annual Water Usage 👉🏻 Saved around €18,000/year 👉🏻 Detected a Major Leak in the Hotel 👉🏻 Saved Time and Resources The passionate and dedicated team at Pillo Hotel & Spa Ashbourne is actively collaborating with our SMART FLOW monitoring team to further drive their water sustainability goals. 🌍💧 Well done Darrell Penney and the team for their successful water monitoring & sustainability story! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #successstories #CaseStudy #watermanagement #sustainability #water #innovation #success #hospitality #hotels

This is perhaps only the second hotel I have seen this far where they don’t provide mineral water but only a jug for self service refill of water in the corridor. 🏅However, this is absolutely the way to go to reduce plastic wastage. 🍶What I like about this machine is the storytelling effect - it shares the number of bottles saved and in this case it’s 14,742 just on this floor. Great initiative. Hope more hotels and the MICE industry adopt this concept. 👏Special call-out to Cititel Mid Valley hotel. ♻️Which other hotels have you seen such mineral water reduction initiatives? #esg #reducewaste #reduceplasticwaste #hotel #hospitality #malaysia #jenelim

#Hospitalitytrends are constantly evolving, with #culinary, in particular, moving at a rapid pace. Today’s guests no longer simply expect a meal when they dine out; they seek unique and innovative experiences that can help them to learn about a destination’s history, culture and the people behind the food. In a highly competitive market such as hospitality, staying ahead of culinary trends provides a competitive edge to guest satisfaction. While culinary trends are a reflection of what people are interested in eating, they also represent cultural shifts, societal changes and advancements in #technology that are driving the industry forward. The year 2024 promises to be a gastronomic adventure, with certain culinary trends—such as #mushrooms and #seacuterie rising to the top. To ensure success in the year ahead, hospitality industry professionals should consider the following consumer preferences: https://lnkd.in/d7ejaXF5 #tourism #Tourisminsights #pakistan #tourismindustry #AtharJ #ecotourism #sustainabletourism #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment #tourismmarketing #60seconds

HOTELS July 2023 - WILDFIRES IN EUROPE, CHINA and NORTH AMERICA. Lots of “things” are connected and sometimes in strange ways – Here’s one: 1. Holiday makers flee their hotels because of wildfires. 2. Hotels put around 5,000,000 used mattresses into landfill every year. 3. Landfill creates CO2 and methane. 4. CO2 and methane are greenhouse gases. 5. Greenhouse gases increase temperatures causing wildfires. 6. Holiday makers flee their hotels because of wildfires. Every bit helps - www.ammique.com (no landfill ever). Every hotel can help.
