Don't Miss Out: The Global Dialogue on Technology Kicks Off Tomorrow! United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in partnership with the Governments of Luxembourg and The Bahamas, will launch the Global Dialogue on Technology tomorrow at the UN Headquarters. This is the final installment of the three ICPD30 Global Dialogues convened to revitalize the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) agenda. The previous dialogues on demographic diversity and youth empowerment successfully brought together diverse stakeholders to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ICPD Programme of Action and envision a more equitable future. In this future, population and development, as well as sexual and reproductive health and rights, are central to sustainable development. The Global Dialogue on Technology will convene stakeholders from governments, tech companies, healthcare industries, civil society organizations, academia and digital rights and feminist movements. They will have the opportunity to discuss themes such as the digital gender divide, technology-facilitated gender-based violence, an equitable future for AI, future innovations for inclusive development, and how to best leverage the transformative power of technology to advance women's health, rights, and choices, provided that potential harm and risks are minimized. Despite making up half of the world’s population, women only account for about 34% of clinical trial participants. The NIH’s inclusion policy has helped turn things around, but low female participation persists. A recent article from clinical leader highlights 5 easy steps trials designers can take to better serve women. They include: - Leveraging technology to reduce participation barriers - Integrating women’s voices into trial design - Using data to reduce racial disparities - Creating new protocols for integrating pregnant women into trials - Investing in new approaches to improve our understanding of how drugs impact women Have you tried any different approaches? 🌟 Unlocking the Power of Digital Health for Women: A Celebration of Innovation and Equality on International Women's Day 🌟 As we celebrate International Women's Day, it's crucial to spotlight the transformative role of digital health technologies (DHTs) in enhancing women's healthcare and advancing gender equality. I would like to share the insightful WHO-EURO report uncovers how DHTs are revolutionizing access and empowering women to take control of their health decisions. 1. Transforming Women's Health: Digital innovations offer women comprehensive access to healthcare services, empowering them with telemedicine, health tracking apps, and information platforms. These tools are invaluable in areas ranging from maternal health to mental wellness, enabling informed healthcare decisions and promoting autonomy. 2. Tackling the Digital Divide: Despite the potential, a significant gender digital divide exists, with barriers such as internet access, digital literacy, and affordability impacting women, especially in marginalized communities. Addressing these barriers is essential for making digital health inclusive and accessible to all women. 3. Guiding Strategies for Equity: The report highlights strategic frameworks like the Global Strategy on Digital Health 2020–2025 and the Regional Digital Health Action Plan for the WHO European Region 2023–2030, which advocate for integrating gender equality in digital health policies to bridge the healthcare gender gap. 4. The Importance of Collective Action: Achieving gender equality in healthcare through digital innovation necessitates collaboration across sectors. Policymakers, healthcare providers, tech developers, and civil society must work together to develop equitable and accessible digital health solutions. 5. Empowerment Through Information: Access to health-related information empowers women with increased autonomy and a stronger voice in their healthcare experiences, showcasing the critical role of information in women's health empowerment. This International Women's Day, let's commit to leveraging digital health technologies to empower women worldwide. By promoting equitable access to DHTs, enhancing digital literacy, and embedding gender equality into healthcare innovation, we can ensure a healthier, more empowered future for every woman. Let's use technology to break down barriers and build a healthcare system that uplifts, empowers, and respects the rights of all women. Here's to celebrating innovation, equality, and the health of women everywhere on this International Women's Day! 🌍💪 Credit to: WHO and EU. #InternationalWomensDay #DigitalHealth #EmpowerWomen #HealthcareInnovation #GenderEquality

🌟 Happy International Women's Day #IWD2024🌟 There are a lot of touching stories of success being shared across social media today. Let's celebrate this! ... but our work is not done! Let's also remember that there is still a lot of work to be done to advance Women's Rights in #healthcare... and an onus on women leaders in healthcare to be advocates and leader toward health equity. On this International Women's Day, let's take a moment to reflect on the crucial strides needed to promote women's rights in healthcare and address gender inequalities prevalent in medical science and patient care. 💜 In 2020, Angela H.E.M. Maas wrote an insightful article published in Maturitas (2020 Jun; 136: 22–24) called "Empower Women in Healthcare to move Women’s Health forward." Maas emphasizes that historically, medical science and patient care have predominantly focused on male patients, leading to delayed and sometimes misdiagnosed health issues in women. Her research findings indicate that despite women living longer, they experience more unhealthy years due to barriers in accessing quality healthcare services. Socio-cultural factors further compound these challenges, impacting women's health, wellbeing, and disease outcomes differently than men. Moreover, Maas underscores the disproportionate burden of non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular diseases (CVD) on women, exacerbated by gender disparities in healthcare access and treatment. The article stresses the importance of gender equality and equal rights for women in healthcare leadership positions to address these disparities effectively. By empowering women in healthcare and recognizing the value of female values such as creativity, empathy, and mutual connection, we can elevate women's health on the global agenda. This International Women's Day, let's commit to advocating for policies that prioritize gender equity and investing in comprehensive healthcare services for women, ensuring that every woman receives the quality care she deserves. #InternationalWomensDay #GenderEquity #HealthcareForAll #womensrights [Reference] Maas, A. Enhance women's health through accessible telemedicine, digital health apps, AI diagnostics, virtual communities, and personalized medicine. Prioritize privacy, collaborate with tech innovators, and ensure comprehensive digital education. Examples like self-administered contraceptives, and the use of social platforms demonstrate the potential for technology to revolutionize women's health.
