Impact evidence is so important. As a non-profit, it’s vital we hold ourselves to account, both to those we seek to serve and to those who fund our work. We also need impact evidence to support our own learning on effectiveness. We have to know that funds are used to good effect: that they achieve results, and that they improve the lives of our clients and their communities. Answering the question, ‘Are we doing the right things?’ requires deep and comprehensive data collection, analysis and review. Read more about how we're doing this in our 2023 Global Impact Report.

Career Clara-ty 🌕 for Mid-Career Academics Designing Meaningful Lives>Work| Research/Impact Trainer | Great Academic Escape | Funding Strategy | 🧠Psych PhD | 🌸Life After Academia | Samba/Salsa💃🏽🇵🇷 | Capoeira🤸♀️
You've probably toyed with the idea of joining a think tank to make impactful changes in public policy. The allure is undeniable - these institutions often sit at the intersection of academia and policymaking. But, according to a recent report, think tanks are finding it increasingly challenging to influence government policy on a global scale. The twist? They still plan to hire more. However, as you evaluate this potential career move, you must be aware of an underlying issue: many think tanks operate in silos, often overlooking local community activism. This detachment from grassroots movements can sometimes lead to strategies and recommendations that don't resonate with those most affected by policies. I've personally experienced this disconnect. In interviews for director-level roles at think tanks, I've sensed an approach that felt too elitist and cautious. While I respect their methodology, I believe there's room for more boldness, integrating local activism insights, and making policies that are impactful and grounded in real-world experiences. So, if you're seeking meaningful work in public policy, a think tank might still be an option worth exploring. However, finding one that aligns with your values and vision for activism is vital. As the landscape of policy influence evolves, let's hope more think tanks adopt an inclusive approach, valuing local community insights as much as academic research. Here's the report: https://lnkd.in/ew5RzmHr If you're interested in exploring the skills you bring to think tanks, take a look at the free resource I created: lunaleadership[.]com/phd-skills #leavingAcademia #TransferableSkills #careerPivot #TransitioningTeachers #socialImpact

Consultant Connect is proud to highlight another amazing economic developer, Ashley Busada, CEcD! Ashley is the Vice President of Business Development at the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC). Read on to learn more about Ashley and her incredible insights into the economic development field! Looking back at your career so far, what makes you most proud or fulfilled? Reflecting on my career journey, what brings me the most pride and fulfillment is the ability to create opportunities that have a meaningful impact on individuals and communities. Working with companies, both small and large, to facilitate their expansion has been a deeply rewarding endeavor. Whether guiding a business through its first operation in the United States or supporting their expansion in the US, I've witnessed firsthand how these ventures not only bolster the company’s success but also benefit the wider community. By assisting companies in their expansion efforts, I contribute to their success and generate economic growth and job opportunities for the communities I serve. Each job created represents a chance for someone to thrive and contribute positively to society, filling me with a profound sense of purpose in my career. Who has been your greatest mentor? My first CEO in my career was a woman. When I stepped into a male-dominated field as a young woman, she showed me how to turn what others might see as weaknesses—youth and gender—into strengths. I learned that I didn’t need to overcompensate because of my age or gender but rather to always recognize my own value. She paved the way for me to confidently claim my seat at the table alongside the "good old boys." To this day, the memory of being labeled a "Pretty Ribbon Cutting Girl" serves as a stark reminder of the journey we've undertaken and the strides we've made.
