Yesterday, we launched a multi-media campaign designed to move the needle for our members. We're asking our new government to continue working to fix the allied health staffing crisis. This means acknowledging the essential roles allied health professionals play at the very foundation of the health-care system by allocating for competitive wages and strong benefits. It means designing a strategic, long-term human resources plan, posting vacancies promptly and doing the work necessary to fill them. It means assessing Manitoba's retention and recruitment initiatives and ensuring we're measuring up to other jurisdictions. We simply can't afford to lose any more allied health professionals to better-paying jobs with better working conditions. Allied health professionals want to be there for you when you need us, but there simply isn't enough of us. More of us means better care for you. Recently MNU received Prairie Mountain Health agency hour data for 2023. No surprise to us, it brings our total provincial agency hours usage up to 836,664 hours. That’s an overall 24.8% increase from last year, and that’s without 3 months of data from Northern Health. In dollars, that’s an estimated $61,712,336.64 financial investment on agency province-wide.   Let’s just pause here for a moment… 62 MILLION DOLLARS spent outside of the public system. If this continues, we will most certainly hit 1,000,000 agency nurse hours in 2024 and based on the average dollar per hour calculation used, we’re looking at approximately $75,000,000 spent on agency. Not only is this insane, it’s a fiscally irresponsible way to spend tax payer’s dollars. Time to get a handle on this. #TimeforRadicalChange
