Ready to conquer the world of disability disclosure? 🌟 Here are the golden do's and don'ts to ensure a smooth journey if and when you decide to disclose your dsability to your employer. ✅ DO's: Let's ace this together! 📝 When the time comes, share any needs you may have for accommodations. If applicable, preparing a confident script and practicing until perfection can be helpful, or enlist the support of a trusted advocate. Know the who, when, and how, to tailor your approach for success. ❌ DON'Ts: Avoid these mistakes! 🚫 Sometimes it’s okay to skip the medical jargon and diagnoses, if you’re able to explain your needs/barriers another way - you be the judge! Timing is everything – avoid early or last-minute disclosures. Remember, selective sharing is empowering – not everyone needs to know. Remember, these are only a few tips to help get you started and confident in the disclosure process! For more detailed support, contact us at employmentservices@ccrw.org and let's open doors to understanding, break barriers, and create workplaces that celebrate every individual's potential. 💪💼 #PWD #Accessibility #InclusionMatters #EmploymentForEveryone #DisabilityInclusion #WorkplaceAccessibility #DisabilityAdvocate #AccessibleCanada #Disclosure #DisclosingDisability

I am one of many advocates for clients in the disability community, providing meaningful support to disabled individuals. The motivation is to approach this endeavour with creativity and innovation, as it not only enhances the experience for the participant but also allows for greater enjoyment and achievement. By taking advantage of a creative approach, the aim is to bring life and vibrancy to the support provided, fostering a sense of fulfilment, enjoyment, and empowerment for the individual. This not only contributes to their overall well-being, but also promotes a more inclusive and supportive environment for the disability community as a whole. Obviously, we can be committed and dedicated to continuously seeking new and innovative ways to support disabled participants, and I am delighted to see the positive impact of our collaborative efforts. Together, let’s continue to break down barriers and create a more inclusive society for all. We build a stronger community together. Through my work with the CEO Commission for Disability Employment and The Improvaneer Method, I have had a really great birds-eye view of the need to advocate and how important it is to meet with congressional members and push them to understand the needs within the disability community. This terrific article highlights 3 key areas to focus advocacy in the disability community. 1. Public Health 2. Home and Community Based Services 3. Financial and Employment https://lnkd.in/eWDmmJ7j

Substantial gainful activity can prevent an applicant from receiving their coveted social security disability benefits. According to the Social Security Administration, substantial gainful activity involves earning at least $1,310 per month working. Though this amount may not seem substantial, it could bar you from getting the benefits you need for living expenses. An experienced California social security disability benefits lawyer in your area can determine if you are eligible to receive disability benefits. It's been four weeks, and our heads are still firmly in the Disability Royal Commission's Final Report. We want to share some of our favourite recommendations so far. Standouts have been the ones that are all about better-supported decision-making practices in disability services (we're looking at you recommendations 10.6 and 10.7). The NDIS 'Supported decision making policy' and 'supported decision making implementation plan' were great starts. But we need to go further. Embedding great supported decision-making practice across all aspects of disability service provision can seem tricky. That's why a practice guide and NDIS Practice Standards are a must. We know that good communication support and supported decision-making are intertwined. Especially for people with complex communication needs. When we fully understand and value how our clients communicate, we understand their choices and preferences. Our clients' behaviour tells us what they like and don't like. And then there's how our clients express their preferences with gestures, body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, vocalising, pointing, high-tech and low-tech alternative and augmentative communication. We know ALL our clients are good communicators about their preferences. It's our job to listen properly. #DisabilityRoyalComission #DRC #RoyalComission #Disability #advocacy

Top 5 Take-Aways directly from the article: 🏡 Waiting lists for home and community-based services rose 3.3% in 2023 to include about 497,000 people. 💙 At the heart of the challenges facing the disability service system is difficulty attracting and retaining direct support professionals #DSP who help people with disabilities live in the community. 📝 A survey last year found that nearly all service providers experienced moderate to severe staffing shortages, leading almost half of providers to end some programs or services. 😥 Meanwhile, 77% of providers said they were turning away new referrals and 72% acknowledged that they were struggling to meet quality standards. 🌎 In addition, the findings show that the situation is far from uniform across the nation. About 80% of those on waiting lists in 2023 lived in just five states — Texas, South Carolina, Florida, Illinois and North Carolina — and Texas alone accounted for nearly two-thirds of people with #Disabilities on such lists nationwide.
It May Get Even Harder To Access Community-Based Services For Those With IDD
