This year’s #WorldMentalHealthDay theme is ‘mental health is a universal human right'. It is not in many parts of the world and in the UK. Black people are the least likely to access mental health services and Asian least access IAPT (Rzepnicka et al., 2023).Mental health NHS Trusts, ICBs and NHS England need to have transcultural leadership to tackle inequalities, systematic racism and exclusion of people and staff of the global majority.#WorldMentalHealthDay  #TransculturalLeadership

Seeking some help from the broader community: I am part of a team working on Social Determinants of Heath (SDoH). This topic is challenging for lots of reasons: awkward conversations, lack of resources, potential for causing harm, etc. Here is my ask: do any of you have a story of how asking someone about SDoH led to an improved outcome for that person? There is a critical shortage of behavioral health providers in the U.S. Here’s what we’re trying to accomplish with our public policy priority focused on access to care and services through workforce expansion: 🥼 Address provider shortages in underserved areas, including in rural communities and incarcerated populations, through loan forgiveness and other financial incentives. ↔️ Expand the behavioral health workforce by promoting access to peer support specialists and properly trained and supervised para-professionals who can provide support for suicide-focused care. 💬 Coordinate communication between stakeholders to leverage existing federal and state scholarships and related programs. 🏫 Increase access to clinical supervisors, training credentials, and peer support certification programs. ⚕️ Expand primary care and behavioral health integration, including through the Collaborative Care Model and the development of learning collaborative partnerships.
