We knew it was happening, but it's now official: the PFL is acquiring Bellator to form a new undisputed No. 2 among global #MMA promotions. The news comes 3 days after the latter held Bellator 301 and 4 days before the former hosts its World Championship. #PFL Chairman and founder Donn Davis shared details Monday re: how things will look. At this early stage, I'd call it a mixed bag from a fan perspective, with the caveat that we can't say the extent that these decisions are contstrained by near-term financial imperatives. For instance, keeping the brands and their respective world championships separated. For now, I have a handful of early questions and stray observations: 💰#Bellator 301 included the semifinals of their Lightweight Grand Prix tournament. The winner was promised $1 million. Will this receive its official conclusion, or be folded in some way into the PFL's unique "season" format? 🏆Davis said there would be a champ vs. champ event between the 2 brands. Based on the current belt-holders, Bellator utterly wipes the floor with PFL. That's 100% fine by me, but your mileage may vary. 🤝Speaking of which, I wonder about the possibility of going all-out and creating a separate super-belt for any champion who "unifies" titles between the brands. AEW vs. Ring of Honor vibes. ❓Bellator wasn't able to cultivate a truly robust, loyal audience. Let's be honest: they have a good roster, but the *brand* isn't very valuable. So, why bother keeping it alive? 👊PFL offered top Bellator brass, including President Scott Coker -- whom devotees will also recall as the Strikeforce guy -- some manner of role at the company. Coker hasn't shown his cards on this. I guess there's a *chance* he'll decide he's done with being an MMA promoter entirely; that's not a prediction. 📺Both brands need new broadcast/streaming deals soon. There's an opportunity to package Bellator's rights together with the PFL -- who are currently with ESPN/ESPN+ -- but since MMA is silly, I'm fully prepared for galaxy-braining by which they shop them separately in some form or fashion (TV vs. streaming, PPV vs. non-PPV, etc.). Hey, how about sidestepping cable entirely and accepting a generous "overpay" from a streamer like Apple or Prime? Bellator hasn't ever gone the PPV route, for what it's worth. 💸If PFL does stay with ESPN, when will the Worldwide Leader realize that it cannot charge $49.99 for a pay-per-view if these 2 fighter rosters remain less than fully merged? There's no excuse not to make the fights fans want to see. 🥊This likely doesn't do much of anything to change the future outlook for Francis Ngannou, who was expected to make his PFL debut in 2024 before becoming an instant darling in boxing when he put Tyson Fury on his bum. Same thing with him. He built an enormous social media network, Where were they born? Near Cleveland, Ohio. Yup, there are some interesting folks born in Northeast Ohio. From Zero to 100M Views: The Architect Behind Fortune 1000's Most Viral Campaigns. Ready to Unlock Your Brand's Potential?
"America, f*ck yeah!" After taking a beating earlier this year, Bud Light is back with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, signing a record-breaking sponsorship deal. And it could not have come at a more perfect time for Bud Lights to rebrand (back to its old brand) as beer for blue-collar working men. Here's why it's a win-win for both parties. 🥊 New Champion (Sean Strickland) 🥊 USA vs Russia (Cold War II) 🥊 UFC 300 (Historical Significance) Last month, the UFC crowned a new Middleweight Champion, the fan-favorite Sean Strickland. Bud Light should get behind him. His interviews with Nina Marie Danielle (1.5m Instagram) frequently go viral for being hilarious, self-deprecating, and crude. His brand is Americana, and he posts about trucks and guns (maybe Bud Light in the future). Sean is the perfect ambassador to welcome the next generation of beer drinkers. Patriotism works best when you have a rival. Khabib Nurmagomedov put Russian fighters from Dagestan on the map. Now, Islam Makhachev is the Lightweight Champion. With the war in Ukraine underway and America supporting Ukraine, Bud Light can tap into the patriotic fervor that comes with worldwide competition. Consumers will want to support American brands like Bud Light more than ever. Summer of 2024 will be host to UFC 300. It will be one of the most watched sports events in history, filled with must-watch fights from household names Connor McGregor, Jon Jones, etc. The event could have 2M pay-per-view buys with Bud Light at the center of the ring. Expect clips to be played over and over, etching Bud Light into fight night history. Bud Light needed to do something drastic to reverse the slide. The UFC partnership is what they needed. The jokes about Bud Light will get old and then be ignored and forgotten. New consumers will align their brands with the most exciting fights. So here is my question: Will this sponsorship pay off? Is it enough to make Bud Light's past influencer campaigns feel like it is just a memory? #brand #partnership #budlight #ufc #marketing #sales #influencer

Combat Sports News: Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg 'The Fight Of The Century' and 'Battle Of The Billionaires' blasted Media Man, TMZ Sports and plenty of others followed, and the world was hyped for it - week after week, after week, media and fans created content to fuel the fire, MMA and sports news websites got behind it, and then the buzz got weaker - what happened?! UFC Prez Dana White has gone public with some of the chain of events including a he-said, she-said dive and probe into Elon "The Cyborg" Musk vs Mark "The Lizard" Zuckerberg. *handles are affectionate stage name/gimmicks, just to try to keep you entertained on the story that never seems to have an end! The pain, oh the pain. According to Zuckerberg, Musk is no longer taking the match-up seriously. Ouch! Musk has been semi-active via X (formally Twitter), just in case you blinked and missed it. “The fight will be managed by my and Zuck’s foundations (not UFC). Livestream will be on this platform and Meta. Everything in camera frame will be ancient Rome, so nothing modern at all.” “Everything done will pay respect to the past and present of Italy. And all proceeds go to veterans.” Dana White, mega promoter and head of the world's most succesful and cashed up MMA promotion, the UFC, was keen on the two tsars squaring off mano a mano in the Octagon, has reflected on what’s gone pear shaped via TMZ Sports. “So (Zuckerberg) and I talk multiple times a week. We (had) dinner last Monday. He’s very serious about competing…What he was saying in response to Elon was, ‘There are tons of professional organizations out there, and this is the way that this should be done.’ Not in some backyard or whatever he was saying. Elon’s hilarious.” “Think about this; you’ve got two of the richest, most powerful men in the world and they say they wanna fight. It has to be sanctioned by an athletic commission, the proper medical testing has to be done, the proper drug testing has to be done, and that’s what Zuckerberg was saying. Zuckerberg is saying, ‘There are plenty of professional organizations out there, we should be fighting in the UFC.’” To add extra balance and perspective, Mark Zuckerberg had also mentioned ONE Championship as being a potential host to promote the fight. CEO of ONE Championship, Chatri Sityodtong, even took to X to present his thoughts on the potential MMA match, the competitors, respect and the like. Dana White conceeded he did speak with the Italian government just as Musk stated he did re the Roman Colosseum. “I did talk with the people from the Ministry of Culture, and they were interested in doing the fight. That is absolutely true.” The initial buzz and hype machine on the potential fight has slowed, but if it starts looking like much more than just 'Fantasy Booking', as Media Man and others have got to be known for, speaking to fighters, promoters and such - then the fans and news media will get behind this again. *full story via Media Man channels #UFC #MMA

Why isn’t Conor McGregor fighting? I frequently get asked this question. When you consider that the top 10 UFC PPV Buys chart is dominated by CM with 8 out of the 10 top belonging to him. You have to ask yourself why isn’t he active? For context on the top ten list - Check out the article below by MMA Hive Dana White commented this week that Conor was that rich that he did not need to fight. He is also that rich that the fee he commands to compete makes structuring a fight card around him more complex than people may think. However complex it is, when you look at the figures that the top ten PPV Buys have grossed, it is apparent that the man is in a league of his own and the revenue that he generates is difficult to turn away. For both himself and UFC. •Conor gets a healthy share of the PPV sales on top of his fee. •UFC can generate in excess of $100m everytime that Conor fights. •ESPN win big here too. So why isn’t he fighting? All I know is that it is a huge undertaking to make these fights happen and that structuring a fight card around Conor and his diary to make a full event successful, is very demanding. He is the master of his own destiny and the dictator of his own diary. What a great place to be in for the Irish superstar. Why isn’t he fighting? Only Conor, Paradigm Sports and Dana White know that answer. So for anyone else that asks me. I don’t have a clue. If you do - please share. 😊

Most Valuable Combat Sports Promotions 2024. Forbes have released their MVCSP 24 list. Interestingly, Wrestling is now considered to be a part of the category. Which I agree with completely. Wrestling sits in a position of its own inside of the Combat Sports market place. It is an entertainment vertical, but it is a Combat Sport nonetheless. Endeavour purchasing WWE has validated and elevated the vertical. The top 10 list is formed of : 4 MMA promotions. 4 Boxing promotions. 2 Wrestling. Top 10 Promotions according to Forbes : 1. UFC 2. WWE 3. AEW 4. ONE CHAMPIONSHIP 5. Matchroom Boxing 6. PFL 7. TOPRANK 8. Premier Boxing Championship 9. Golden Boy 10. Combat Global TKO rule the category with the UFC and WWE dominating the space. The Combat Sports category is the growth category of sports. Globally. The next 10 years will see huge growth and I am excited to be a part of that growth. We have our newly formed CSG business launching in the coming months, with 4 key pillars as the basis of what will be a very unique offering for the global Combat Sports market place. More to follow on this in the coming weeks.
