What did disruptions in food, health, and economic systems during the COVID-19 pandemic do to childhood nutrition? In our recent study published in Nature Communications Medicine , children surveyed after the pandemic began in 2020 had decreased height and weight when compared to pre-pandemic measurements. In 2021, these outcomes improved but some outcomes, primarily weight, did not recover completely. Reductions were greatest in the poorest households.  Covid may have left long term damage in ways that will persist but fortunately the short term effects seems to have disappeared quite rapidly Arindam Nandi Amit Summan One Health Trust

Congratulations on a very important piece, Ramanan! It is easy to lose perspective of the fact that this mess of Covid 19 (that continues to raise a variant head here in Manhattan for sure) took as many lives as the everlasting Third Plague Pandemic (1855-1960). Future generations, sadly, will hear the echoes you point out in the article with hard data for years to come.
