Why do people vape? Most people who take up vaping are smokers trying to reduce their risk of harm from smoking. According to Dr Colin Mendelsohn's research on Tobacco Treatment, smokers gave the following reasons for taking up vaping (they could select m response) in the year 2019 in Australia. It is evident that vaping is “at least 95% less harmful” than smoking and “vaping poses only a small fraction of the risks of smoking”, based on the government of UK’s Office of Health Information and Disparities in 2022. VCAM encourages policy makers to take these factual analysis into study, and take necessary steps to ensure regulations are passed in an orderly and effective manner, while making quitting alternatives available and accessible for smokers. #TobaccoTreatmentFAQs See link for details: https://lnkd.in/g4fGWki5

A tail of two countries with wildly different tobacco control policies: New Zealand and Australia. Teen nicotine use is identical in both. But teen harm wildly different. NZ teen smoking has plummeted. Australian teen smoking is increasing. Why? Because Oz has a near-prohibition on nicotine vapes, so a massive illicit market has arrisen full of illegal dodgy products sold with no age-checks. Serious: How often do we need to re-learn prohibition never works?

The best thing a smoker can do is to quit tobacco and nicotine consumption altogether. The pinnacle of harm reduction. Yet, there are millions of adult smokers who do not quit. So, we are faced with a critical societal question: How do we support them in moving away from smoking, the most harmful way of nicotine consumption ➡️ http://spr.ly/6041u58NT #HarmReduction

Considering the strong lobbying efforts of major tobacco corporations, which exert pressure on relevant ministries to implement a ban on disposable e-cigarettes, it seems necessary and justified to create a strong opposition. The only form of resistance against the ban on e-cigarette usage is to demonstrate the strength of users, producers, and distributors. We must showcase the advantages of vaping over traditional smoking. Together, we are stronger!

If the Tobacco and Vapes Bill passes, the UK will have some of the world’s toughest anti-tobacco laws, which I think is great. Figures show that one in five children have tried vaping despite it being illegal for under-18s, while the number of children using vapes has tripled in the past three years. These numbers are incredibly alarming. When vaping first came about, it was introduced as a means to stop smoking, but from the looks of it, there are hordes of children, teenagers, and young adults who have started vaping without ever smoking in the first place. Thankfully, if officials introduce the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, it will mean that no one will ever legally sell cigarettes to anyone turning 15 this year or younger. The bill plans to raise the legal age at which people can buy nicotine products by one year every year. Officials have published and formally introduced the legislation in Parliament but have not yet set the date for MPs to begin debating it. I think this will be a very welcome change, as we already know the harmful long-term effects smoking can cause, but we have no idea what harmful side effects vaping will bring in the coming years. #VapingLaws #UKGovernment #CWD #LawAndLegislation
