Advisors frequently comment that they’re surprised to discover the many ways the Omaha Community Foundation can help their clients, especially compared with national Donor Advised Fund programs. Here are three examples of the types of comments community foundations have heard from professional advisors: “I didn’t realize that the community foundation’s Donor Advised Fund offering was so much more than just an online account. My clients have loved getting to know other donors, accessing first-hand knowledge about what’s going on in the community, and being able to involve their children in philanthropic events and activities.” “I’m amazed at the variety of funds the community foundation can administer. Many of my clients have established Donor Advised Funds and have also augmented their philanthropic planning with a specialized fund such as a Designated Fund or Field-Of-Interest Fund. A big bonus for my retirement-age clients is that the community foundation can receive a Qualified Charitable Distribution from a client’s IRA into some of these specialized funds.” “My clients who sit on nonprofit boards have been so happy that grants from Donor Advised Funds–their own and others’–count toward the IRS’s public support test. That’s really helped new organizations in our community get off the ground.” https://lnkd.in/gFVriH4y

I missed this over the holidays so in case you did too, I am sharing this survey about philanthropy advice by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) The interesting (depressing? shocking?) statistic that struck me was: 75% (of 215 IFAs, wealth managers and chartered planners surveyed) said they have never referred a client to another individual or organisation for further help. I completely agree with CAF's conclusion "clearly more work to be done not only in upskilling advisers on philanthropy matters, but in making them aware of the specialist support that is available". There are lots of great Philanthropy Advisors out there and you owe it to your clients to get to know them and start making referrals. #philanthropy #advisors
Head of Business Development and CAF American Donor Fund. Donor Advised Funds in the UK and USA. Dual-qualified charitable giving for US/UK clients. Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy.
Research in the US has found that 92% of affluent investors who use an adviser did not consider their parents' adviser in their selection process. So how can advisers retain more next-generation heirs as clients? Part of the solution may be advising on philanthropy. Research has found substantial demand among younger millionaires for help with their charitable giving. With this in mind, we Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) asked 215 IFAs, wealth managers and chartered planners how well they're responding. ✅ Click below to find out more and download our NEW report 'Advising the Next Generation' CAF will be producing a range of tools and content in 2024 to support advisers with philanthropic conversations, signposting and advice, so watch this space and let me know if you would like to find out more. #philanthropy #nextgen

Hello CPA Community, Did you know your clients aged 70½ and older can create impactful funds at our foundation using their IRA distributions? In 2024, the IRS allows individuals to direct up to $105,000 from an IRA to a qualified charity, an increase from $100,000 in 2023. Here's the exciting part: your clients can make a once-in-a-lifetime Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity, contributing up to $53,000 in 2024 (adjusted for inflation from $50,000 in 2023). Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) are excluded. This unique opportunity not only benefits your clients by minimizing taxable income but also empowers them to make a lasting impact on causes close to their hearts. By establishing funds at The Community Foundation, donors contribute to a legacy that supports vital initiatives for years to come. Let's collaborate to guide your clients through this tax-efficient strategy and make a difference together. Reach out to learn more about how we can help you and your clients navigate this powerful avenue for philanthropy. #CPA #TaxEfficiency #Philanthropy #LegacyPlanning #FinancialStrategies #CharitableGiving #IRA #QCD #FoundationFunds 🌐✨

In a world filled with countless worthy causes, choosing where to direct your charitable efforts can be a daunting task. 🤔 How can you ensure your time, money, and resources are making the most significant impact? Join us for an illuminating discussion from Morton Wealth's 2023 Investor Symposium, where our Wealth Advisor, Kevin Rex, CFP®, sits down with Jessi Bierling of James Storehouse, and Stacy Swanson, CFRE of Interface Children & Family Services. Together, they tackle the questions that weigh on the minds of those with charitable inclinations. 🌍💖 Learn about the power of attending charity events, conducting thorough research with tools like Charity Navigator and GuideStar, and the profound impact of volunteering your time, expertise, and mentorship. It is so important to remember that help doesn't always have to come in a monetary form. Kevin, Jessi, and Stacy also dive into the world of Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs), offering insights on how to donate efficiently by contributing appreciated assets and planning multi-year donations. With DAFs, you retain advisory privileges over how the funds are distributed, and contributions are typically tax-deductible in the year they are made.
