Although the majority of your clients’ charitable giving is likely strategic, including giving through a Donor Advised Fund or other type of fund at the community foundation, there are definitely exceptions in any household. One of those exceptions for many of your clients may be a form of giving called “checkout charity.” The spare change really does add up–to the tune of $749 million nationwide in 2022 alone! https://lnkd.in/gAnv2dpc

How likely are you to keep saying, “Yes, I round up my total or yes, I’ll give another dollar?” Too many asks? Maybe not the right type of ask? Check out stand generosity - Complacency or Annoyance? I’d say many people are already at the complacency or annoyance tipping point in being agreeable to give at the check out stand. Also, I don’t think it’s a long term sustainable method to seek donors. And does it actually help the nonprofit in the way it’s supposed to help for the people or demographic being served? My personal opinion is the following: Know where your donation dollars are actually going and how they’re being used. If you’re not certain, I’d say think about what types a charitable causes might make you happiest to give to and especially locally in your own community, neighborhood or business location. It’s absolutely a wonderful opportunity and feeling to give to help others, but it’s equally just as important to know where your hard earned money is going to be used and is it making an impact… as you think about your giving this Christmas holiday season, do you want to help your local homeless shelter, an wildlife animal rescue, your arts and theatre centers, science and nature museum, mental health awareness, soup kitchen or children’s museum? What aspects are important to you and what do you think about when you give to a nonprofit organization? For me, the most important aspect is knowing if that organization can stand on its own and continue to be sustainable by having solid leadership and staff, an engaged board members, all around community support beyond the money, and reasonable plans to be impactful for the community and last, but definitely not least, improve the lives of those are on mission to serve.
Impulse givers tend to differ from those who give directly to charitable organizations, research finds. Checkout charity seems to appeal most to people under 50 years old and those who are middle-class wage earners — earning from $35,000 to $99,000 a year. Those who had attended college were slightly less likely to give at the register than other survey respondents.

Here's a really interesting report from Legacy Foresight about the value of the #InMemory #Giving market in the U.K. Some hard hitting facts: - Nearly half of adults have lost a loved one in the last 2 years. - A third of adults have given an in-memory donation in the last year. And a really poignant reminder that, at the heart of all in-memory #Fundraising is a person, a loved one who’s been lost. https://lnkd.in/dmg49KMU

📢 Nonprofit friends -- Found this great article on Donations at retail checkouts. 🛒 Customer donation programs brought in $750Million in 2022! 😲 Wow! One thing I found very valuable was: “Our survey found that women and Black respondents were the top-giving demographics with checkout charity,” and “Middle-class individuals under 50 who have not attended college were also more likely to donate." 💡 Does your Nonprofit need to reach a new demographic? What a great way to involve a corporate partner and drive results at the same time! 🤷♂️ Does your nonprofit have a Customer Donation program strategy? #Nonprofits #Donations #Donors #Coporatedonors #Customerdonations #Retaildonations #checkoutcharity #Charity https://lnkd.in/d_uZKRN8.

Donations in support of The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign are down for the fourth year in a row. Is it Inflation, people carrying less cash or distrust in Charities? Thoughts and data below: Each holiday season, scores of volunteers spend time trying to raise money for the organization, which serves more than 25 million people in need across the country year-round. Their goal is always to raise more than $100 million! The Red Kettle Campaign raised approximately $102 million in 2022. Giving has steadily decreased since 2019, when the campaign raised approximately $126 million. A summary of the recent trends in charitable giving in the United States up to 2023: 1. Total Giving 🔻 : In 2022, total charitable giving was approximately $499 billion, a 3.4% decrease from $516 billion in 2021. 2. Corporate and Foundation Giving ⬆ : Corporate giving increased by 3.4% in 2022, totaling $21.08 billion. Foundation giving also rose, reaching $105.21 billion. 3. Individual Giving 🔻 : Individual donations constituted 64% of all donations in 2022, though there was a general decline in individual giving. 4. Peer-to-Peer Fundraising ⬆ : This mode of fundraising saw an 18.8% increase in 2022, exceeding $1 billion. 5. Monthly Giving ⬆ : There was an 11% increase in monthly giving, accounting for nearly a third of online donations. 6. Volunteering: About 30% of adults in the U.S. volunteered in 2019, averaging 52 hours per year. 7. Influence of Social Trust: People with higher social trust and those connected to others who donate are more likely to give to charity. 8. Donor-Advised Funds: In 2021, over 1.28 million donor-advised fund accounts were created, holding assets worth $234.06 billion. 9. Online Giving: A significant portion of younger donors (Gen Z and Millennials) prefer online giving. These trends highlight a mix of growth and decline in different areas of charitable giving, influenced by economic factors and evolving donor preferences. #donations #charity #help #holidaygiving

Instead of waiting until the year-end rush and trying to figure out which charities to support and how much to give before the charitable tax receipt deadline, why not consider supporting your favourite charities through monthly donations? The beauty of this approach is that it doesn't require you to give more; it allows you to give consistently. It's a steady stream of support for the causes that matter most to you. https://lnkd.in/e6eu2qPD #athenawealthandlegacysolutions #giving #legacyplanning #willpower #socialpurpose
