“Hire for Attitude” Run away – fast and far – from people who spout such useless advice!   Seriously, when in the history of the world have you not already done that?   While this phrase sounds like sage advice,   it is 100% what you’re already trying to do in your interview process   and at the same time it is 0% actionable   since -          there is NO litmus test for attitude, -          much less an agreed definition of “right” attitude   Know that “right” attitude is all in the eye of the beholder. From a recruitment perspective, ghosting can be a frustrating and detrimental phenomenon that occurs both internally and externally. Internally - This lead's to wasted time and resources, as well as a negative impact. It can be particularly frustrating when candidates have been scheduled for interviews or have reached the final stages of the selection process, only to disappear without a trace. This can result in delays in filling critical positions and can hinder the progress of important projects. Externally - This leave's candidates feeling frustrated, confused, and disrespected. It reflects poorly on the employer's brand and can damage the organisation's reputation in the job market. Ghosting candidates can also discourage potential candidates from applying in the future and can make it challenging to attract top talent. In both internal and external recruitment scenarios, ghosting is highly unprofessional and disrespectful. It demonstrates a lack of communication skills, empathy, and consideration for the time and effort invested by all parties involved. It can create a negative perception of the organisation, both among current employees and within the industry. To mitigate the negative impact of ghosting in recruitment, it is crucial for organisations to prioritise effective communication throughout the hiring process. Clear and timely communication with candidates, whether it is to provide updates, share feedback, or deliver rejection notifications, is essential. Additionally, maintaining a positive employer brand and reputation can help attract and retain top talent, reducing the likelihood of candidates being ghosted.
