In this latest Peace Insight article, Sawssan Abou-Zahr asks: 'are human rights really universal?' Since the article’s publication, we’ve all seen the horrific, indescribable images of human suffering and devastation resulting from Israel’s strikes on #Rafah. The continuing mass movement calling for an end to this suffering is vital peacebuilding work in action, as Sawssan says. But it is time for Western governments to do their part to protect civilians, defend human rights and safeguard justice and accountability. As a peacebuilding NGO, we're calling for all governments to demand a #CeasefireNow and to suspend arms transfers. Peace is only possible with the full respect of the rights and freedoms of all. We can’t let the answer to Sawssan’s question be ‘no’. ✍ Add your voice to the demands for the UK to act: https://lnkd.in/gvZUhj52 ✉ Read our letter to President Biden, demanding the US respect international law and not undermine the ICC: https://lnkd.in/g58Cwxvn ➡ Learn more about the actions we're taking, and how you can get involved, here: https://lnkd.in/gSmwRHDg #CeasefireNOW #AllEyesOnRafah
💬"Are human rights really universal, or only meant to serve the political and economic interests of the Global North, the former colonial powers?" PROTECT OUR CONSTITUTION We say NO to Albanese’s divisive ‘The Voice’ We believe that our Constitution should treat all Australian citizens as equal. We believe in a colourblind society, where you are judged by the content of your character, not the colour of your skin or ethic background. We believe the only way to uplift indigenous Australians languishing in poverty in remote areas is equality of educational and economic opportunity – not more government handouts. The defeat of Albanese’s ‘The Voice’ will be a turning point in our nation’s history – the rejection of the old policies of division, separation & segregation – and the promise that we are all equal under our Constitution. I'm reading posts and comments and start to realize after 30 years, South Africans are still confused on why they vote. Voting across the world is about ideology. A person who aligns with communism votes for communists. People aligning with border policies and more (nationalistic) vote for that. People aligning with liberalism votes for that. People aligning with Africanism votes for that. If a person votes for EFF or ANC, he is not a retard as "progressives" label them. If you find yourselves criticizing people voting along their ideological lines, then you are the one who doesn't understand why people are voting. There are parties that are for middle class. If you are middle class and votes a party that aligns with middle class, how do you expect people not in that bracket to align with values of middle class parties? Please stop embarrassing yourselves and let people exercise their constitutional rights of freedom of association. If your party doesn't win, it doesn't make those who won stupid, it means people do not see things the way you do.

On this Republic Day, let us remember the democratic ideals upon which our nation was founded.🌟 Our diversity is our greatest strength - when we make room for all voices, empower those previously unheard, understand perspectives different from our own, and come together for the greater good. 🤝🏼 As citizens of this republic, we must continue to nurture the seeds of justice, equality, liberty, and unity sown by the heroes of our past. 🌱⚖️ We must carry forth the light 💡of wisdom, compassion 🤲🏻, and truth - standing up peacefully 🕊️for what is right despite strong opposition. For it is often during turbulent times that character is shaped. Our constitution guarantees fundamental rights and freedoms 📜to all citizens - rights that we must continue to uphold. ✊ But rights come hand in hand with civic duties - if we wish to progress, we must be engaged 📝 and informed 💡 and make our voices heard 🗣️. The future of the republic lies in our hands. 👐 Let our old, narrow walls of prejudice crumble away. May we celebrate 🎊 our diversity while recognizing our shared humanity. 🤝 May we all work together 🤝to build a just country that lives up to the ideals of its founding vision - a country in which the light 🔆of freedom 🕊️, equality 🤝, and truth 🔎shines brightly. Jai Hind! Happy Republic Day! #RepublicDay #Democracy #Diversity #Inclusion #Empowerment #Unity #Justice #Equality

#OTD Today we mark the 100th anniversary of the Snyder Act, also known as the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, which unilaterally conferred U.S. citizenship to Native peoples. It was part of the federal government's continuing attempts to cover up their responsibility to honor our treaty rights. Indigenous peoples continue to face the obstacles of systemic racism and denial of treaty rights. Today, state governments still change poll times and locations without notice to Tribal governments. In recent years, judges at all levels of government have weakened the Voting Rights Act and state lawmakers continue to pass new unconstitutional laws to make it harder for Native people to vote. For this centennial, we’ve joined with partner organizations IllumiNative and the Native American Rights Fund to declare a National Day of Action and Reflection. The centennial offers a unique opportunity to raise awareness and foster a collective narrative about this pivotal moment in U.S. history for Native peoples. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ggUwv-9D
