Green urbanization is no longer a choice. It is a must for transformational social economic development.
#GetToKnow our work in Rwanda #Week1 #Climate_Resilient_Urban_Development Every Friday, join us as we delve into our impactful work in GGGI Rwanda. This week, discover our strides in 'climate-resilient urban development'. By 2050, Rwanda's urban population is projected to reach 70%, putting pressure on infrastructure and land use. Rwanda targets 35% of sustainable urbanization by 2035, emphasizing well-managed socio-economic growth. GGGI is supporting Rwanda to develop sustainable cities with climate-resilient infrastructure and inclusive green economy. Check out our achievements in the slides! Stay tuned for more updates on how we're shaping the green growth in Rwanda. #greencities #greengrowth #greenrwanda 🇷🇼🌿 Dr. Malle Fofana Caroline Raes Helena McLeod Frank Rijsberman Global Green Growth Institute GGGI Africa

This month, Sauti East Africa began a new initiative to improve equitable access to climate-related information and adaptation tools for 15,000 women farmers in Kenya. We are excited to announce our partnership with the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Small Grants Programme. Sauti will be receiving €127,400 of funding, with plans for the project to run through to May of 2025. Leveraging on the reach and impact of our our current USSD/SMS information platforms, we will be adding new climate-related information such as: - real-time weather forecasts, - seasonal climate hazards, - agricultural adaptation strategies, - climate risk management tools, - climate finance opportunities, - and up-to-date trade and market information. Looking forward to working with local organizations and climate partners on tackling this important issue! 🌍 Excited to announce that I participated in the Voluntary National Review (VNR) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Manicaland Province! The National Review process, which spanned several weeks across Zimbabwe's ten provinces, has just concluded in Manicaland today. It has been an incredible experience! The VNR served as a crucial platform for the country to assess its progress in achieving the SDGs, contributing to the National Development Strategy 1 and 2. It also allowed us to identify areas that require further attention and action. I am grateful for the opportunity to lend my voice and insights to shape Zimbabwe's sustainable development agenda. Throughout dynamic consultations, discussions, and workshops, I engaged with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and private sector representatives. The collective wisdom and passion displayed by all participants were truly inspiring! Together, we delved into innovative solutions and actionable strategies to address the pressing challenges faced by Zimbabwe in relation to the SDGs. The discussions consistently emphasized inclusivity, equity, and the principle of "LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND," ensuring that diverse perspectives were heard and valued. The collaborative spirit and unwavering commitment demonstrated by each participant have been instrumental in driving positive change. It is through such collective efforts that we can accelerate progress towards a sustainable future for Zimbabwe. #VNR #SDGs #SustainableDevelopment #Zimbabwe #Collaboration #PositiveChange

“Organizations need skilled human resources, people who can write good project proposals. We work in remote areas that are vulnerable to natural disasters like landslides. We cannot communicate with donor agencies properly all the time as per the need. Moreover, as a women-led organization, we need to deal with different challenges. I believe that our executive committee needs to be strengthened in order to ensure organizational sustainability.” - Naieu Prue Marma, Executive Director, Women Education for Advancement and Empowerment - from Rangamati in Bangladesh - at the launch of the Bangladesh America Maitree Project. The five-year, $48 million initiative will advance and facilitate locally-led development in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi development organizations will have an opportunity to strengthen their organizational and programmatic capacities by accessing funding in sectors such as agriculture, health, governance, education, and humanitarian response. In addition, the project will support organizations to strengthen their networks for knowledge sharing, share lessons and successes and bolster civil society in Bangladesh. On behalf of the American people, the Bangladesh America Maitree Project supports a strong civil society in Bangladesh. USAID

What resilience could mean for Uganda (and many other countries): - institutional resilience eg ministries etc - livelihood resilience for all - inclusion - resilience of markets - resilient physical environmental health - resilience of human resources' capacity, capability and action - resilience of the built environment and how all the above interlink. Resilience needs mainstreaming while planning both in rural and urban settings. By nature, resilience is an additive journey, contextual, needs be inclusive, needs sustaining mechanisms, demands regulation and enforcement, requires informed research, demands collaboration, requires leadership, redefining infrastructures and technologies In cases such as sanitation among others, emmissions accelerate and amplify resilience demands. Such cases need be investigated. There was a clear call for less talk and more action on resilience: stop environmental degradation, manage waste, include green spaces at household level, plan better, and ease procurement for sustainable solutions Two statements were echoed and they seem to resonate widely: 1. we are not serious 2. we need to love the environment by action and not words 3. need for inclusion for all. These insights were from Panel 1, 4th day #UWEWK24 with Barirega Akankwasah, PhD , Prof Charles B. Niwagaba, Dr Isaac Mutenyo, Philip maina Gatongi, and Prof Rose Namwara, Charles Owekmeno moderated by Dr Rose Kaggwa and James Kisseka. #Pref4Wash Sandec-Eawag #Water #Uganda

In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, sustainable economic development has become a necessity, with several large organisations undergoing #transformation programs to chart a path for #sustainability. Yet, despite the prevalence of these initiatives, many fall short of achieving their intended outcomes. In our journey towards fronting sustainable economic #development, we partnered with USAID Feed the Future Inclusive Agricultural Markets Activity to build our teams’ capacity on Market Systems Development (MSD) Programming. This took place last week at the Golf Course Hotel – Kampala, attracting active participation from 25 Programs, Investment/ Access to Finance, and Research & Learning staff.
