Sorors, we have amazing news to share with you! Today, the White House announced that Vice President Kamala Harris will be attending the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated’s 2024 Grand Boule. Dr. Stacie NC Grant states, “We are excited to welcome Vice President Kamala Harris to our 2024 Grand Boule to discuss what this administration has done to improve the lives of all Americans as well as the investments being made in the historically underserved communities our members serve.” This monumental conversation serves as an opportunity to address ongoing issues happening within our communities, while paving the way to continue advocating “The Extraordinary Power of S.H.E.” - our worldwide initiative to be intentional about Social, Health, and Economic justice for women at home and abroad.

We did it! Thanks to the unwavering support of our incredible members and amazing community, we have met our goal for the 2024 Grand Boulé Zetas Helping Other People Excel (Z-HOPE™) initiative with Project Period! Period poverty involves a range of challenges related to social, health, and economic injustices that have caused inadequate access to menstrual hygiene tools and education. This issue goes beyond lacking menstrual products; it also includes limited access to proper washing facilities, hygienic waste management solutions, and comprehensive education about menstrual health. Our project aims to combat period poverty in our communities, starting with Indianapolis, Indiana, and expanding nationwide. Project Period Indy will help keep young girls in school, promote healthy menstrual hygiene, provide period prep products and education, and support self-care. Together, we strive to normalize the conversation around periods to eliminate the associated stigma. Because of your generosity, we can now donate 10,000+ feminine hygiene boxes to support menstrual health! July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Month, also known as BIPOC Mental Health Month. This day was formally recognized by Congress on June 2, 2008. Bebe Moore Campbell was a well known author, journalist, teacher and mental health advocate. She advocated for her daughter who had her own struggles along with Blacks and underrepresented communities. “While everyone - all colors - everyone is affected by stigma - no one wants to say ‘I’m not in control of my mind.’ No one wants to say, ‘The person I love is not in control of [their] mind.’ But people of color really don’t want to say it because we already feel stigmatized by virtue of skin color or eye shape or accent and we don’t want any more reasons for anyone to say, ‘You’re not good enough.’” -Bebe Moore Campbell As we make advances in mental health, we recognize that culturally-based practices are all valid and valuable choices people can make to live mentally healthy and free from stigma. #zphib1920 #MinorityMentalHealthMonth #MentalHealthAmerica

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, or Emancipation Day, marks the historic moment when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865. This momentous occasion symbolizes the end of the darkest chapters in American history and the beginning of a new era of freedom. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated joins the nation in commemorating Juneteenth, a day of profound significance in the history of African Americans. It was the steadfastness of our very own trailblazing sorority member Ms. Opal Lee (affectionately referred to as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth”) to ensure the impact of this day was recognized by all Americans which led to the establishment of the legislation needed which resulted in President Joe Biden’s signature in June 2021 proclaiming Juneteenth a federal holiday. On this day, we celebrate Soror Lee, commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and recognize our ancestors’ tenacity, strength, and triumph. As members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated we are committed to advancing social justice, uplifting marginalized voices, and dismantling systems of oppression.
